Cut the mould off potatoes?

They're very fresh, husband only dug them up a week or so ago, but someone put them in a Tupperware container and they've gone a but mouldy. I assume it's OK to just cut off the mould, but just checking there isn't some dastardly potato disease we'll all die of? Ormore importantly, will they taste "off"?

I'd only feed to them to the miscreant, just in case they're harmful, LOL
