Silly question about cooking gammon

BreakfastAtLitanies · 20/09/2019 19:27

I will admit, I have never cooked it before.

My oven has a grill dial, it says min-max with a halfway point marked.

Do I need this dial to be turned up for the gammon at all?

Thank you Grin

Do you mean a joint or a gammon steak

What does the packaging say?

For a joint you don't need the grill at all, unless you want to crisp the fat at the end.

Use your oven dial, not the grill dial.

Don't use the grill at all for a joint of gammon. Put it in the oven

Put it in a saucepan cover with diet coke and simmer gently for an hour and half

As above but Cherry coke not Diet Coke!

Wrap loosely in foil, put in roasting tin middle shelf 190°c . Take foil off for last half hour, cook for about 20-30 mins longer than it says on the wrapper( if it has one - sounds like it doesn't!)

Thank you all for the help - my gammon ended up delicious! I've never cooked a joint of meat before - usually stick to pies etc. and often I use the grill element to finish, so wanted to check!
