What sides would you serve with a Massaman curry?

So I am having 6-8 adults over for lunch at the weekend. One vegetarian, no other dietary needs/allergies.

I am going to do a big slow cooked beef Massaman curry (with potatos and peanuts in it), plus a veggie version using the same spice mix for the veggie. I will serve coconut rice alongside so it will be a fairly hearty meal as is, but I am feeling it's a bit lacking, and could use an extra side or 2, perhaps something with some vegetables as otherwise it will just be meat, carbs and more carbs?

DH says to do chutneys, breads, raita etc, as you would with an Indian curry, but Massaman curry is Thai? So should I do Thai snacks like fishcakes, spring rolls etc? Or stir fried greens and other veggies, perhaps in an oyster sauce (although then the veggie couldn't have any)? What would you prefer as a guest?

I'd do a coconuty vegetable stir-fry (or roast veg, which might be easier for a crowd), or a really fresh salad with cucumber, bean sprouts, and a lime and chillli dressing.

This one is good

Depending on how strict the veggie is I would substitute the fish sauce for soy.

Steamed pak choi with veggie oyster sauce? Maybe whack some tender stem broccoli in with it? Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Lovely

This is one of my new favourite food websites - she's on Insta etc too.

How about her Thai corn salad ?

Would definitely recommend her dishes - I've done a couple of chicken ones and dead straightforward....

Stir-fry veg and a salad both sound good.
I've also done son-in-law eggs to go with a massaman curry.

Agree, you need some fresh zing. Something like a papaya or mango salad maybe?

Massaman curry is often served ‘Indian style’ in Thailand as it’s a dish very popular amongst the Indian population there. I also think Indian breads / chutneys are more filling and go better with it then the traditional thai accompaniments. Don’t use raita though. South Indian chutneys such as Mango and lime / tomato / coconut chutneys go better with thai food

The salads above sound nice but I’d also do some bread to mop up the delicious sauce. Lucky guests!

Thanks so much everyone, lovely ideas here. I particularly like the Marion's kitchen site and will def be using that in future. So I think I will do a 'zingy' salad of some kind and some steamed greens with a veggie sauce. Not averse to having some breads too Teddy and Hogs, who doesn't love triple carbs after all! Grin
