I made peach cobbler this evening

It's always been one of those things that has been mentioned in American novels but that I've never tasted or even seen. Peaches are incredibly cheap at the moment so I thought I'd give it a go. It's delicious, although very, very sweet.

I used this recipe, which was pretty quick as I have cup measures. It probably would have slowed things down a bit if I'd had to translate it all into grammes. I sprinkled less sugar over the peaches than the recipe asked for as they are already sweet at this time of year.

It really was incredibly quick, I'm not at all a domestic goddess and still found it easy. Just slice the peaches and stir the other ingredients together with a spatula. Plus I paid just under €1 for 10 peaches (used six for the recipe) so really cheap too.

Ah thank you @BlackAmericanoNoSugar, that looks absolutely delicious!

Peaches are my favourite. I’m going to try it, I have a cup/gram converter set of scoops that are really good for using American recipes.

Sounds lovely. Did you have it with custard? Grin

We had it with vanilla ice cream. I don't think they really have custard in America so it's traditionally served with cream or ice cream (and anyway we happened to have ice cream in the freezer).

Having grown up in the Peach State (Georgia), I was raised on peach cobbler. This one looks and sounds great. And yes, it's definitely served with ice cream or whipped cream!

What’s the topping for it? Is it cakey or crumbley?

Looks delish!

Looks lovely. Is it the same as Peach Crisp does anyone know?

The topping is a bit biscuity, like a very soft, crumbly shortbread. It's not a texture that you get on any European/British desserts that I've tried.

I’m not a fan of custard, ice cream sounds perfect with it. And now I want a pudding at 6 in the morning!

I'll try this recipe this weekend.

'I found that pouring two tablespoons of melted butter over the peaches at this point was helpful in coaxing some “juiciness” out of the peaches during that last chunk of bake time'

^

Sure.

Cos there just ain't enough butter on it already!

Grin It is incredibly buttery, and sugary. You won't need to do the melted butter thing though, the peaches are nice and ripe this time of year.
