Making my ma a birthday cake.
I've made the sponge, and might just make another for me smells yum yum.
Gonna sandwich it together with strawberry jam and buttercream.
BUT, how do i make buttercream oh wise ladies (and men?) ??????

4ozs icing sugar, 2 ozs margarine or butter. Splish of vanilla if you feel like it.

Whizz the butter by itself before adding the icing sugar a bit at a time to stop it flying everywhere.

3oz butter
6oz icing sugar
a bit of vanilla essence is nice in there too.

I will be doing it tomorrow. so will write that down. It'll keep ok, the sponge, in a tupperware type box til tomorrow evening won't it??

(I work til 5.30, by time i get home won't have time to make a fresh one.Or in morning.)

half a pound caster sugar
half cup egg whites

warm these together the same way you melt chocolate (in glass bowl in pan of water) until sugar has melted'

whip it until it is cool.

add bit by bit half a pound of softened butter whi until light and fluffy, add a few drops of vanilla essence.

3oz marg: it creams well
6oz icing sugar
beat margarine with wooden spoon till it is soft, add sifted icing sugar

can flavour with vanilla, chocolate powder or even coffee disolved in a tiny bit of water

hmm my version seems so complicated now, I blame dh, he taught me that way as he used to be a tastes bloody food though
