Ds has been a bit of a nightmare to wean so far only favouring all fruit and sausages

However I do a really simple meal with courgettes, mushrooms, garlic, onion and a tin of toms and pasta. He loves it and will happily let you feed him (which is a huge thing).

So I'm trying to think of different variations of things for him. Have thought of spag bol but other than that I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

onion, proscuitto, lots of fresh basil and tin tomatoes

you can hide anything in tomatoes really just whiz it up

try him on pesto too ..

Just vary the veg you add maybe?

mash some broccoli in with it and cauli and carrots?

some poached chicken broken up into tiny pieces?

keep it simple I think

Yeah, last time I did it I added brocoli which went down too.

I should try adding meat too because apart from the sausages he wont touch any meat.

Red peppers, roasted with onion, whole peeled garlic cloves and whole tomaotes - then whizz in the blender and serve on hot pasta with grated cheese on top

Wirks wuith tuna in btw, and tinned mackerel

Kbear Sat 04-Aug-07 17:09:55

could it be because sausage meat is a soft texture? If you're giving him mince dishes, cook it slow in a casserole in the oven - it cooks through so much nicer and ends up softer. Also poach the chicken rather than putting in oven.

I really dont know kbear. I'm trying to figure out what it is in this dish that he likes!

I'll try the mackerel and slow cooking the meats.

you could try baking chicken in your tomato sauce

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:15:15

What like a casserole?

Twiglett Sat 04-Aug-07 17:16:16

well you could stick a chicken breast in a piece of foil surrounded by the sauce?

or stick a few breasts in a casserole dish covered in the sauce .. meal for all

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:17:22

Yeah that would work.

Bloody typical that dh hates tomato sauce stuff

I'm going to write all this down.

How about tuna or white fish - they are both soft.

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:21:47

He's pulled his nose up at Tuna but will eat fish fingers.

If he touches the meat he pulls a face, its like he doesnt like the feel of it.
Very odd.

Twiglett Sat 04-Aug-07 17:22:47

ds hated all things meat for the first 3 years or so .. now he loves all things meat

jaynehater Sat 04-Aug-07 17:24:01

Would he go for filled pasta in a blended veggie-stuffed version of your sauce, or is he a bit little yet?

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:24:37

Thats good to know.

I guess all I can do is keep offering it.

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:25:18

He might do JH.
He'll be 1 in a couple of weeks but I can cut them up a bit.

jaynehater Sat 04-Aug-07 17:27:39

Have you tried a less chilli/mustard filled version of Nigel Slater's sausage pasta?

(De-skinned sausage, frazzled, then add white wine, <mustard & chilli - could leave out or substitute> cream, sage, seasoning, serve over pasta.)

DD2 was greedy, but a fussy little stinker, and she always packed that one down happily.

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:28:48

That sounds delish.
Think even dh would eat that!

jaynehater Sat 04-Aug-07 17:28:59

We used to lob mushrooms and veggies etc in too, once we knew what she'd tolerate without pitching it across the room.

Just like her father.

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:30:17

Thats it isnt it!

DD would eat anything given to her, now shes fussy.
Now we have it the other way round with ds!

Just hope this next baby isnt fussy!

Twiglett Sat 04-Aug-07 17:30:30

good way for sausages is to brown 'em then shove them in casserole dish with tin tomatoes, tin heinz baked beans and big pinch mixed herbs (can add can chickpeas too) then bake 45 mins .. delish

Nbg Sat 04-Aug-07 17:31:40

Oooh I'll do that on Monday. Have some sausages to cook and dh would eat that if its got beans in it.
