A fourth of a cup?

I'm watching an American cooking show and have some questions about the measurements the presenter uses-

  • She interchangeably says a fourth of a cup and a quarter cup- same?

  • A stick of butter- is that 6 oz like Google says?

*What's the UK equivalent of chicken broth,it ISN'T stock as she uses that in the same recipe Confused

  • UK equivalent of beef consume- is that a Campbell's soup?

I'm sure I'll have more questions...

First: yes it’s the same
Second: a stick is quarter of a pound so 4oz
Third: broth is like a thin soup - use canned
Fourth: yes

Sometimes use my mums old Constance Spry book and it has gils as a measurement...!

As for Campbell’s check tin in case it needs to be diluted.

Half and half - semi skimmed milk?

I think half and half is more like single cream? 🤔

A "stick" of butter is actually 4oz or about 113g

Stock is made from bones so it's a bit more substantial.
Broth is mostly made from vegetables or meat and it's a bit more liquid.
In the UK, you can use a Knorr stock cube would be fine.

Half and half is single cream in the UK.

American measurements are a bit odd (I'm Texan so I can say that) and would definitely prefer to use metric and some US food presenters do use some US-centric products but OP, if you could tell me what the actual recipe is called from the Pioneer Woman, I could advise you better :)

Lol, I knew it was the Pioneer Woman...she actually says “a fourth a cup” and it sounds so wrong to me. DH and I love watching her though - her traditional cowboy recipes are great, some of the fancier ones are a bit strange.

It is very addictive watching. I make her stir fry beef with sugar snap peas quite a lot

Half and half is literally half cream, half milk. I remember the first time I went to the US, asking for it in my tea as I thought it was semi-skimmed, and having a bit of a surprise!

I absolutely LOVE Pioneer Woman. Wow I watched that every day this time last year, haven’t for ages though!! I’ve since gone vegetarian so that rules out 90% of the recipes in the book of hers I have 😄
She’s so friendly and homey.

She ruined a perfectly lovely steak sandwich with cheese from a jar I'm today's episode. I'm not even sure we have a UK equivalent of that 😂

I try not to watch too often or I get sucked into the cooking channels with her, and Ina, (good chicken stock, lots of budder and kosher salt, mmmkayyyy) being my favourites.

Once I got roped into something with that guy who wears his sunnies on the back of his neck, like Rick Stein got fat and morphed into some awful Jamie Oliver Gordon Ramsey a-like.

Then it's Adam whosit with the competitive eating and I am doomed

Ahhhh I love The Pioneer Woman and her mountains of cheese on everything Grin

Also the multilayered sweets ... butter... white sugar...brown sugar...cream... ice cream... smarties... chocolate sauce... caramel sauce... etc Probably inedible but so much fun to watch Grin

I bloody love pioneer woman - particularly when her taciturn husband gets roped in, looking like he hates every minute.

Farm house rules is also bizarrely watchable.
