How to keep milk cold on doorstep?

We have milk from a local milkman, not a big company type one. Have done since moving her around 13/14 years ago. We like to support this and like that the milk isn't plastic bottles, etc.

However, he delivers very early in the morning - we are talking round 2am time, sometimes earlier.

But this summer, and last, we are noticing the milk is going off quicker so we are wasting milk, and - like today - I now have no milk left, having empty a bottle away and cant go out for a couple of hours, so having to go without a hot drink!

Is there a way of keeping the milk cold and fresh on the doorstep or do we need to rethink using a milkman?

I seem to remember DM leaving a bucket of cold water on the front step in hot weather for the milk bottles to be put into. This won't work if you leave it so long the water heats up to ambient air temp, of course.

We left a cool box out for ours last night, with ice packs in. He also delivers around 2am and although it wasn't icy cold this morning it was ok. We are in a very quiet road though, not sure I'd do it on a busy street.

We had our milk delivered when we lived in Australia and you left an insulated bag on the step and the milkman, or ‘milko’ 😂 put your milk inside. In the summer you would fill a old plastic bottle with water and keep it in your freezer and then pop it in when you put your bag out.

Can you get something like these, this one is currently sold out but you can probably get alternatives online

I have seen the milkandmore one but its not in stock and can't find similar online so far.

We don't have a cool box so whatever we chose we need to buy it. Just want it to be not too big - as many cool boxes are - so that is actually fits on the porch step, and ideally not something we need to keep remembering to add ice packs, etc too.

Just annoying as wyou pay more for milk delivered by a milkman as it is, but then we are having to tip too much of it away at the moment.

we use an insulated bottle holder that we bought from our milkman (one of the bigger organisations) it's essentially a box made out of polystyrene with a lid but it seems to work well.

An insulated cool bag is easily purchased and they're not expensive. The supermarkets often have them at this time of year - ones designed for a six pack of beer/coke would probably work. You don't have to put a small ice pack in, but I would. Leave it out night before with ice pack, milk delivery is made. you wake up and bring it all in. Done.
