My son is going camping with the school, he leaves early Monday morning and I collect him late Tuesday evening. The school will provide food for the first day but I have to send him with lunch for Tuesday, this will have to be carried with him for both days, so cool box/bag not practical.
I'm struggling to think of food that will survive that long in this heat and still be safe to eat on the second day.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Or just a collection of fruit and nuts.

All the John West Light Lunches are from the ambient aisles in the supermarket and do not need to be refrigerated. They include a fork. They’re probably not enough for a growing boy in itself, so I’d pack some extra snacks like dried fruit and cereal bars.

What? They won't be able to store it in fridge over night? That is mad. I would go for savory biscuits, dried fruit, bread sticks, satsumas, crisps etc. Tough one! What about making some cheese scones of something like that?

That seems weird, what are other parents doing?

Surely the school means the other way round? But just case it's true, Babybel cheeses would last ok, with crackers or Swedish crispbreads. Trail mix is good and I second the idea of John West canned meals, like tuna and veg. They are small so maybe put in two. Or maybe a tin of ham, luncheon meat or pate. Mind fingers! A few cherry tomatoes in a box, celery. You could add a frozen bottle of water to keep things cool for a bit. Mr Kipling pie for dessert.

I agree with PP surely it should be you provide day 1 they do day 2.
Anyway, I bought some tieka flavoured quorn pieces in the aisle with things like pot noodles the other day. They were quite good. If you packed some of them, pita, pot of mayo and some carrot sticks in a cool bag with a frozen bottle of water and some fruit and biscuits I don’t think you’d poison him.

Apples, banana, a scrubbed carrot, satsumas, trail type bars, crisps, croissants, brioche rolls for snacking on. Does he eat fish? a small tin of fish (tuna/sardines) and a bread roll could work.

Can he heat things up? on DoE flavoured noodles to cook with a bit of hot water were a popular choice as were Dolmio pouches of ready cooked pasta and a pouch of sauce. Nothing to go off in the heat

School is definitely providing lunch for the first day, they obviously don't want to be responsible for poisoning them on the second day.
Thank you for all of your suggestions. We're going for cheese scones, a John West Lunch, nuts and individually wrapped brioche rolls. There will, of course, be a large selection of sweets.

We hope he'll have a great time!

Are nuts allowed? Most schools seem to be nut free zones (including for trips)
