The perfectest fudgy icing recipe

I am looking for the perfect fudgy icing recipe. Not your run of the mill buttercream. I CBA to make loads just to see, but have narrowed it down to recipes using condensed milk:
like this one here
and then there's this recipe here which looks close to buttercream, but with melted chocolate and stuff and just looks better, don't you think?

Any experiences or thoughts on this?

Did one which involved a can of condensed milk (used coconut condensed milk) and then you fill the can with natural peanut butter. Added pinch of sea salt as pb was unsalted. Simmered together for a bit until fudgey. Then I halved it and mixed one half with an equal quantity of dark chocolate, left the other plain. Used plain one as first layer, chocolate one as second layer.

Morning Zazie. I tried both recipes I linked to last night and liked the consistency of the condensed milk one, but the flavour wasn't chocolatey enough for me. Perhaps darker chocolate would have been better. As it was, the other recipe was pretty perfect so I used that.

I've never heard of coconut condensed milk (where did you get that?), it sounds amazing. Your recipe sounds kind of epic, but not what i'm looking for this time. Must find an excuse to try it though!

The icing for Nigella’s chocolate fudge cake recipe is amazing.

I think you can't beat chocolate/cream/icing sugar combinations. This one is great but might not be chocolatey enough for you www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3019/chocca-mocca-caramel-cake

You could always do half and half caramel bar and plain chocolate.

Hello Blockbuster. I got the coconut condensed milk online at Realfoods, but I think you also get it on Ocado and Amazon.

It makes so many things possible for dairy free people. Fab flapjacks with the condensed milk flapjack recipe that’s in here. Or boil with some coconut sugar for a fab sauce for sticky toffee pudding.

Wow that's great Zazie, I'm not dairy free but it sounds delicious.

I use this.

Melt butter.

Stir in other ingredients

When combined, turn up heat and stir for a minute or two. The cooking makes the mixture fudgy.

Remove from heat and beat with wooden spoon. Do this until the mixture has cooled to the extend that when it drops off the spoon it folds.

Then pour on cake. If mixture is still too hot and runny, a lot of it will run off the cake.

This will not look fancy but the taste is delicious.

I also like nigella's chocolate fudge icing but it's not quite chocolatey enough for me, so I add about a teaspoon of sieved cocoa powder to the recipe.

I used to do something like that when I could still eat butter avocadochocolate.

It was was
2 tbsps butter
2 tbsps golden syrup
2 tbsps cocoa
2 tbsps icing sugar

Melt butter and syrup together til they bubble. Add cocoa and mix throughly. Remove from heat and beat in icing sugar. Continue beating will you reached desired consistency then spoon over cake.

I really miss that one. It was fab on ice cream too.

My mum used to melt dark chocolate and mix it with equal weight of condensed milk. It made the most delicious fudgey filling.
