We have family coming over for a bbq next weekend weather permitting of course, and I need some ideas.
2 adult vegetarians
4 adults
4 hungry teenage boys.
Looking for something maybe a bit different from sausages and burgers. Or things as well as sausages and burgers as I’m sure they’ll be devoured by the ‘kids’
Thank you!

Flank steak marinated in ginger, soy, honey and garlic? (To die for and an inexpensive cut)
Marinated chicken (can sometimes get it already marinated at the butchers) or buy some Nando’s peri peri maybe?
I’d definitely still have sausages and burgers, a bbq staple imo.
Chicken kebabs
Fish marinated with lemon, chilli, thyme bbq’d
Corn on the cob
Roasted red peppers
Halloumi
Grain salads, dips, pasta

Bake a ton of jacket spuds in the oven for a start. Covers hungry teens and almost every diet can cope with a spud. Freeze any left. No doubt others will have fancier ideas but start there.

Is it too early did the big supermarkets to do their bbq stuff? Ready to bbq kebabs, marinated meats etc. I’d have vegetarian sausages but they might not like it cooked on same grill as meat. For them I’d do a quiche or something. Lots of yummy salads and different breads. Hummus etc. You can really go to town at a bbq!

Halloumi and Mediterranean veg kebabs are lovely
Whole baked fish
Beer can chicken - or chicken portions marinated in some sort of BBQ sauce
A good piece of steak (I like rump) and some lamb chops
Baked potatoes or potato salad
Roasted Med veg
Baguette

Couscous salad
Mixed leaf salad

Pavlova / cheese selection

We’ve just discovered barbecued lamb and it’s so good!

This one is Greek style www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2220672/barbecued-greek-lamb-with-tzatziki Serves 6. We serve it with the tzatziki, and warm pitta breads.
For the veggies, I’d do these bbq falafel www.femalefirst.co.uk/foodanddrink/summer-recipes-bbq-falafel-299838.html and this Greek butter bean salad www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2014/06/greek-butter-bean-salad-tomatoes-dill-recipe.html

This is Indian! www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/531671/indian-spiced-barbecued-lamb Serve with pickled red onion, mango chutney, raita, warm chipatis and this recipe for Indian summer greens www.harighotra.co.uk/indian-summer-greens-recipe For the vegetarians, serve paneer skewers www.bbc.com/food/recipes/paneerandvegetablesk_86440 and this chickpea salad www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/punjabi-style-chickpea-salad

Just a couple of ideas for side dishes, I find potatoes always go down well. Stuffed jackets_remove potato from skin, mash with butter, cheese and spring onions, put back in skin, bit of cheese on top and grill until melted. New potatoes covered with garlic butter or mint sauce. Potato salad. Lidl do a lovely garlic mayo, I just add this and spring onions to New potatoes for a quick potato salad. All these are cheap and can be made in advance, also kids seem to love them-bonus!

There’s some great ideas here thank you so much. We’re going to have a practice run on Monday with just the 4 of us so I’ll be trying a few things out.

I’d say go to town with the sides! They’re what makes a bbq really good, I’m not that bothered my the actually bbq stuff.
Lots of homemade salads
Feta, mint and water melon, really summery
Sweet potato salad
Chopped Mexican salad
Roasted veg and cous cous with pomegranate seeds
Then a green salad, homemade coleslaw and tomato, mozzarella and basil.
Home made flatbreads brushed with garlic butter and finished on the bbq are good too.

Jamie Oliver does a fantastic BBQ corn on the cob thing, sure you'll find it on Google, he adds parmesan and chilli to (use pecorino if they're strict veggies), you'll also need a separate grill too to avoid contamination.
I love panzanella with a BBQ, you can prepare before people arrive then just add basil before serving.
Greek souvlaki is amazing too. I like it with pork. Drool

Yes to souvlaki either pork or chicken
Or chicken shawarma- thigh fillets are best, carve into slices once cooked
Yes to flatbreads
Yes to lots of interesting sides - we like a tomatoey one, a freekeh/tabboulehy one, maybe with fruit and eg feta, or a Greek salad - use lots of herbs for punch

....for the vegetarians I'd add some halloumi kebabs and some chilli corn on the cob
