hmmm, sure your oven is working ok?

maybe you should give up and try again tomorrow- easy to make mistakes and thigns when you get stressed

I use a basic sponge recipe which is:

6oz self raising flour
6oz caster sugar
6oz butter
3 eggs (large)
splash of milk
few drops vanilla essence

whizz it all up with a hand mixer thingy and divide between 2 tins. should only take around 25 mins to cook (can't think of temp off the top of my head but 180 is prob about right)

Sounds like there is something wrong with your oven thermostat. The recipes posted are the best there are (there is the question of whether to add a teaspoon of baking powder or not that has been discussed on previous threads).
