What can I make for pudding?

Dinner party tomorrow night for 6 of us. Main course is lamb racks with gratin. Veg is roast cauli with whipped feta, green beans, and baby carrots. Will be fairly rich.

For dessert, I’ve made proper vanilla ice cream and some chocolate gelato. What else can I make to go with that?

I was thinking a dessert platter of sorts, with berries, shortbread stars, mini meringues, all to go with the ice creams. I told DH this and he was unconvinced.

So open to suggestions! Something with crunch or texture ideally. I have raspberries and blueberries, egg whites, and am reasonably competent. I can go to the shop too for more ingredients. Pav or roulade is a no from dh though.....

Tell DH if he doesn’t like what you’ve chosen he can make something himself.

I think the fruit biscuits and ice cream sound lovely, especially as you say the main is quite heavy.

Already having an ice cream option I'm leaning away from suggesting creamy desserts, otherwise I would have said a fruit fool or mousse.

What about a summery fruit cake - peach and blueberry- or strawberry cake. That could go nicely with ice cream.

I was flicking through one of my recipe books earlier and came across a recipe for rhubarb samosa, they served it with ice cream. Looked amazing. Want me to post a pic?

I love the idea of a dessert platter. Its what i usually do, to make it easy for both those who don't want or like sweet stuff and those for whom no pud is a disaster.

Big platters of crunchy Italian almond biscuits, fresh berries, chocolate squares, Turkish delight on the table

Make sure the ice creme is perfect temperature to scoop and pass it round the table. A sweet wine and the conversation will flow brilliantly. My favourite part of tbe meal, every one is relaxed. Enjoy.

@familyofaliens whipped feta is the most amazing thing ever. Get a block of creamy feta, and blitz it up with a bit of cream to help loosen it.

I put a big dollop on a platter, then add charred cauliflower, toasted pine nuts and some really good olive oil. You can use any other veg, and it’s amazing with pomegranate seeds too.

Oh, it’s not winter where I am so no crumbly type desserts. I don’t think rhubarb is in season either!

Glad that you all like the platter idea though.

That sounds delicious, OP.

I’m doing MFP so it would have it as my main, rather than a side but I’m definitely going to give it a try.

I think I’d leave out the cream and whizz it with the evoo though.

Your platter sounds really lovely. I think I would especially like some sharp fruit after all that richness.

A sorbet may be a nice option? A bit lighter (you could buy a nice one and just offer it as a lighter dessert substitute to ice cream).

I always like fruit for dessert as it goes well with any meal.
