Fish pie

Any ideas how to jazz it up without using anything green! Dill and parsley are rejected by fussy eaters.

I'm so boring, just poach fish chunks in milk for a couple of minutes, use that milk to make a basic white sauce and top with mash.

Inspire me?!

You could season the milk with a teaspoon of mustard, bay leaves, and a teaspoon of garlic powder? Cheesy mash to top?

SWEETCORN 😍. Peas if the fussy eaters like them.

Sweet potato or carrot and parsnip mash?

Grate stuff in the fish like celery and carrots.
Smoked river cobbler is as nice as haddock but cheaper.
If you want it fishier blend half a tin of anchovies.
Boiled egg.

If you fancy something a bit different, BBC Good Food have a recipe which makes a creamy tomato sauce, topped with scrunched up filo - its really nice, and a bit lighter. I don't add the fennel, but sometimes fry off some leeks or chuck some spinach in instead. Also any combo of frozen/fresh fish and prawns seams to work, I use whatever's in the freezer!

Jenga do you have a link to that recipe please? It sounds great.

I've just done a Jamie Oliver fish pie, fry onions and carrots, cheese sauce with mustard, fish mix, spinach and hard boiled eggs, sprinkling of cheese on top of the mash.

Jamie O’s fish pie recipe is lovely and has carrot and celery grated in (and optional things like spinach and tomatoes, but my lot reject this!). And lemon juice makes all the difference.

Boiled egg. Prawns.
What fish are you using? A mixture of a white fish, smoked haddock and salmon is nice.

In place of the mash, you can put buttered slices of bread, cut into triangles and arranged ontop.

Cheese in the sauce.
A layer of sliced boiled eggs on top of the cheese sauce and fish mixture
Mash on top of the eggs.

Prawn, smoked haddock, salmon in fish mix.

Alternatively use shortcrust pastry instead of potato.

We make the Jamie Oliver version with carrots, onions, cream + mustard +cheese + lemon juice in the sauce, and then mash with cheese on top (the recipe has some spinach in, we add a really deep layer of spinach underneath the mash, but I think it would be fine without.)

(Oh, and we buy the mixed fish pie fish - white fish, salmon and smoked fish mixed. Yum)

A good mix of fish, white, salmon, smoked haddock or mackerel, prawns.
Hard boiled eggs.
Some white wine in the sauce.
Mustard, pepper, horseradish, pink peppercorns in the sauce.

I use prawns, cod, salmon and smoked haddock in a cheese sauce with boiled eggs. Topped with cheesy mashed potato.

Alternatively I do a mildly curried sauce and a topping of grated potatoes and onions with coriander - onion bhaji like.

I hated fish pie until I tried an adapted version of Jamie Oliver's. Fish pie mix poached with loads of finely chopped leeks and grated carrots, chilli, lemon, cheese and creme fraiche, served with buttery peas and broccoli.

I do a lovely James Martin one with puff pastry on top with a layer of Emmental/Gruyere in the middle of the pastry
