Do you think if I whizzed up basil, olive oil and some sunflower seeds it would make something approaching pesto?

We don't all eat cheese - could sprinkle some on for those that do.

Try it! I love pesto but the children are put off by the pinenuts - a milder sunflowery taste might work. Basil is heavenly.

Garlic?

Yes, I think it would work.
There aren't many pine nuts in most bought pesto, anyway.

Bugger! Must've imagined the sunflower seeds - can only find poppy and sesame. What now?

Well I think pasta with a sort of garlicky basil paste would be quite nice actually
Sure you've got basil?

TooTicky · 28/06/2007 16:49

Yup, got basil. Shall I fry the garlic a bit to tame it?

I made my first ever batch of edible pesto last night, the recipe added a grilled tomatoe, was yummy and not too garlicy

what about sauce vierge - tomato, garlic, basil and lemon juice. Google a recipe - strictly speaking you should peel, seed and dice the tomato.

Sauce vierge looks good.
I whizzed basil, olive oil, garlic, cucumber, sesame seeds, lemon juice, a wee bit of salt and pepper... and it was very good!

May I be a bit picky here?? There is no receipe for pesto....pesto refers to 'pestle and mortar' where the stuff is ground together, and refers to any sauce, so it is a generic term. The beautiful green stuff is specifically pesto genovese. I thank ewe.

Wow! Thanks
May I add (for those who do not know) that sushi is not raw fish....it may contain raw fish, but raw fish is sashimi.
