SLOW COOKER... help!!!

I've just bought my first slow cooker.

I am a dreadful cook and my children & I currently live off a lot of pre-prepared food 😔

I need some fool proof recipes to start me off. Simple ingredients that I'll be able to find.

I've never roasted anything before but would love to try, absolutely no idea where to start with this. My slow cooker is only 3.5 litres so also unsure if it would be big enough.

Can some of you lovely people please help me?

I'm embarrassed to ask anyone IRL because of my lack of knowledge. My mum never cooked for me when I was young so I've always been clueless.

Thanks.

There's loads of stuff online if you just google slow cooker recipes. My favourite is stew. I just throw loads of veg and stewing steak in, always use hot stock/water and I put it on high for about an hour and then turn it to low and I usually cook it for between 6-8 hours depending how early I start it off.

I have friends who use it for chilli or bolognese sauce and I always cook my gammon joints in it. I have done slow cooked beef too, put a few veg in bottom of casserole, stick beef on top and I usually put a glass of red wine in and then just turn it on and leave it, again, for about 5-6 hours depending on size of joint. Flipping lovely.

Once you start, you will wonder what took you so long. Smile

I slow cooked a monster £2 turkey leg yesterday. I put it in with leftover tomato passata and an onion, cooked it for hours. It was delicious, and enough for three meals (plus veg). Stock would work just as well.

Stewing is better than roasting in the slow cooker, I think.

You can't roast in a slow cooker but you can make some fab stews, chillies etc...you can cook a whole chicken, just season it with some salt and pepper, maybe a stabbed lemon inside and leave it to cook all day, it will be lovely and moist

Look on u tube for slow cooker recipes, get a basic cookery book and have a go at other types of cooking then teach the DC
Have fun!

If you use an existing recipe, cut down on the liquid, as hardly any boils away.

You can cook a whole chicken, but it doesn't really brown properly, since the temp never goes above boiling point. You would roast a chicken at nearly double that.
