Slow cooker - out for 12 - 13 hours - will it still work?

I've had a slow cooker for a couple of years but never been a massive fan of it but I wonder if that is because I have to leave it on for too long. I leave the house at 7.30 each morning and don't get home until 6.30pm with DH getting home between 7pm and 8pm so we don't usually eat before 8pm. I am always ravenous by then so would ideally like to be able to put something in at 7am and eat it at 8pm but I think that that may be too long. Obviously I could start cooking at 6.30pm but that's the only time I get to see the DC and I find it impossible to juggle cooking along with hearing about their day, supervising music
practise, checking homework and doing something fun with them.

Buy one of those plug timers so it comes on late morning or lunchtime. Prepare the stuff, switch on and leave on plug timer.

Should be fine if you leave it on low. Try a recipe when you're at home and see how it works out,

I used a timer on mine ... prep the night before and leave pot in the fridge, transfer pot to slow cooker in the morning, set the timer to come on at midday, get home at 6ish to cooked dinner!

It's pretty large too, so would make enough to freeze another portion for an easy meal another night.

I fell out of the habit though, will have to dig out my old recipes.
