Breakfast Ideas- 6yo

Anyone have any quick breakfast ideas for a 6yo that I can give him before school. He won't eat anything sweet in the morning which cuts out a lot of breakfast ideas. He likes savoury food.

Anything I can prepare in advance?

I can only think of a variety of toasts which he is getting bored of. I am going crazy at the moment because he won't eat ANYTHING for breakfast and worried because he doesn't like eating anything at school either. He can't stand school dinners other than fish meals which there aren't that many of .

Packed lunch ideas are also welcome.

Please help, Thanks

You can make egg muffins, which are like little baked omelettes with any bits and pieces you happen to have in the fridge - ham, cheese, peppers, spinach etc. They freeze well so you can make a batch. Lots of recipes online for them.

A little boy I once looked after liked to have a baked potato and cheese for breakfast, it only took 5 minutes in the microwave and had carbs and protein.

Are you willing to batch make stuff in advance? Breakfast "burritos" (essentially, wraps) or savoury muffins work well. Omelettes can be frozen and reheated. Cold cooked sausage and hard boiled eggs. Pitta bread, toasted and split with microwaved scrambled egg filling plus ham/grated cheese/spring onion/beans/reheated cold sausage, a la McDonald's?

Or continental style - rolls/croissants with butter, cheese, sliced meats, salad veg. Would fruit be too sweet? Grapes work for my breakfast refuser.

Dippy egg and soldiers
Scrambled egg and toast
Cheese/ham sandwich
Cheese/ham crackers
Baked eggs
Eggy bread
If you chop/prep veg the night before an omlette is quick and easy
Cheese on toast
If he likes fish how about mackerel? Couple of fillets under the grill to warm through.

Savoury pancakes with ham or cheese?
Plain porridge isn't sweet either- the Scots add salt, but you could leave it plain. My dd has had grated cheese on porridge before now...

My dd likes tuna pasta and tomato pasta in her lunchbox for school. I make it the night before and leave it in the fridge

Frittata, make it ahead of time and serve cold, or sliced and quickly heated up on the hob.

Beans on toast, you could add grated cheese.

Thanks everyone - lots of ideas I hadn't thought of . I grew up on cereal and toast so I am always getting stuck for breakfast ideas because of it . Just more hassle in the morning but I like the idea of making things in advance and freezing them. I will try them out and see how it goes.

DS loves:

Porridge
Ham, cheeses, bread, grapes (like continental breakfast style)
Crumpets
Low salt bacon sandwich

And bloody smoked salmon, especially with blinis (expensive sod) Grin

Toasties
Cocktail sausages warm up very quickly in the microwave, serve them with poached / fried egg and baked beans
Marmite crumpet bake
You can put frozen hash browns or potato waffles in the toaster and top them with whatever you fancy
You can also do sweet potato slices in the toaster if that's not too sweet for him
Savoury porridge

Some great ideas- thanks everyone

My boy loves smoked salmon as well but like you say- too expensive for a daily thing!

Sweet potato is too sweet and he doesn't like it , doesn't like carrots either!

But lots of other good ideas that seem pretty obvious now that I think about it !

Mine like oatcakes with a bit of butter or philly and some ham or cheese or both. Or especially with smoked salmon when I’m feeling generous. which isn’t often

My DS(6) is like this and also doesn’t like eggs that much. His younger brother also doesn’t like cereal or porridge particularly either.

He has a rotation of pancakes ( you can make in advance and freeze), wraps which I grate cheese/cheese and ham in and then toast in a dry pan and cut into slices, eggy bread ( french toast), bacon if I can be bothered as a treat, apple slices with almond butter on, he likes nuts so has those with some sliced fruit, oatcakes again with peanut or almond butter or ham/cheese - often has some fruit on the side with all of the others and half a bagel. He tends to like seedy bread or sourdough if you can be bothered - so makes toast a bit more interesting! Also sometimes just a sandwich. Occasionally egg and soldiers.

It’s a pain but I try and think that probably much healthier than the usual easy breakfast! Is more time consuming though.

My 6 y/o won't eat cereal or toast either and he's grumpy in the morning. It's a bugger
He eats: bacon (when I can get it together to make it), scrambled egg with cheese/ham/precooked veg (I keep sauteed diced onion and peppers in a tupperware and sling it in) OR the same in an omlette if I can get the omlette to work. DH makes a good Omlette so I tend to ask him to do those.
He also eats leftovers (Tuna pasta bake. Mac & Cheese. Lasagne) and once I stop thinking "But that's not breakfast food" and start thinking "oh good, I can microwave that and you will eat it" that helps.
Oh and IKEA meatballs. Just those. Sometimes he eats those for breakfast. He's a weirdo!

That’s funny @feckinarse my DS also loves IKEA meatballs. Must be ikea though. Might ass those to my breakfast thinking!
