NYE Oriental Banquet Ideas!

Hello! I'm after some recipe ideas for NYE

It's just DH and I but we've had a rough year ending with MC before Christmas so decided to treat ourselves to some nice food

We both enjoy cooking and eating Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese food and would happily spend the day preparing it with the idea of grazing through the evening whilst binge watching something

I am after any recipes you have (happy to go to Wing Yip for supplies!) of the sorts of things you might find at an Oriental Banquet of some kind (I'm thinking tempura, spring rolls etc) but also anything out of the ordinary!

We both like all meats including fish but I'm allergic to squid sadly!

Thanks so much in advance x

Wing Tip do packs of ready made spring rolls, prawn toast etc.
Steamed char Sui pork buns
Vietnamese rice paper rolls? Fun to have all the bits and pieces, the papers, dish if water and dipping sauces and roll your own at the table
Duck and pancake
cheung fun noodles
Mee foon soup ( it's Mauritian, but Mauritian Chinese)
Pho
If it's close to you, I think See Woo has a more interesting selection than Wing Yip

Dd and I have been trying to master sushi making this year. We just got the kit from Waitrose and do any type we fancy - can't master the rice yet though! Nice for grazing as doesn't need to be warm.
Thai crab cakes are good and easy to do.
Satay are great and the sauce is fab home made.
Ching He Huang does a great sweet and sour pork I think it is. Nothing like a take away at all (to be expected!) but really gorgeous in my meat days.

Wing yip sell frozen takoyaki which are microwaveable. Serve with mayo, HP sauce and katsuobushi (also from wing yip).

Or you could buy frozen dimsum and steam at home: siu mai, char siu bao, lai won bao.

Or how about eel already in the teriyaki sauce, it's quite expensive though

Halibut with ginger & spring onions is a favourite here, add a glaze of sweetened soy/rice wine at the end of cooking. You can use any firm white fish.

Asparagus tempura is good too!

I'd be tempted to try some of these recipes: www.bbc.com/food/programmes/b00cv4gq especially the pork and prawn dumplings. You should be able to buy the skins at Wing Yip (possibly frozen).

We've had some success making Kung Po chicken off the BBC Good Food website with chillis and peanuts.

Also bao buns apparently aren't too hard - my friend made some lovely ones with beef brisket.

Slow cooked pork belly is apparently easy too and you can just leave it to cook.

Sorry haven't made those myself but my friend does a lot of Chinese cooking.

Enjoy your evening!
