My bubble and squeak won't brown

There's quite a lot of mashed up veg (potatoes, carrots, sprouts, parsnips) in a big none stick pan with a good dollop of oil but it's not browning.
I'm scared to turn the heat up too much, any ideas how to get it crispy?

DH says turn up the heat and leave it for a bit (he's a bubble & squeak genius)

It can take quite a while for it to brown.

Thanks all. Higher heat, nerve and letting it sit all worked.
