No.... get it in the fridge defrosting!!

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou Mon 24-Dec-18 15:12:54

You can, it’ll take a long time though. But safe to oven roast.

FadedRed Mon 24-Dec-18 15:13:27

No, but if you take it out of the freezer now, it will have defrosted in time to cook tomorrow.

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou Mon 24-Dec-18 15:14:25

You honestly can cook a frozen turkey. But definitely better to get it defrosting now.

Sunhill4 Mon 24-Dec-18 20:26:16

Mine is defrosted, says on label it takes 2.5 hours to cook. It feeds 11 people and is quite large. I have never cooked one before. Do you think that is long enough? It just doesn't sound long and am stressing big time!!

dementedpixie Mon 24-Dec-18 20:28:51

The fridge will not be fast enough to defrost it. Put it out on a kitchen counter overnight

Bigonesmallone3 Mon 24-Dec-18 20:32:08

Iv got it in the kitchen side, think il put it in the fridge before I go to bed as seems to be defrosting quickly

That does not sound long enough mine says 1hr and 40 mins and serves 4 🤷‍♀️

sunhill does it say 2.5 hours plus X amount of time per kilo?

Sunhill4 Mon 24-Dec-18 20:52:34

No, it just says cooking time 2 hrs 34 mins

dementedpixie Mon 24-Dec-18 20:52:57

As a general guide, in an oven preheated to 180C (350F, gas mark 4):

allow 45 minutes per kilogram, plus 20 minutes, for a turkey under 4.5kg

allow 40 minutes per kilogram for a turkey that's between 4.5kg and 6.5kg

allow 35 minutes per kilogram for a turkey of more than 6.5kg

Cover your turkey with foil during cooking butuncover it for thefinal 30 minutes to brown the skin. To stop the meat drying out, baste it every hour during cooking.

Where available, follow cookinginstructions on the pack

dementedpixie Mon 24-Dec-18 20:53:16

What weight is it?

BentNeckLady Mon 24-Dec-18 20:55:54

I cooked one yesterday for a party and it said 1hr55. It was perfect.

marmitedoughnut Mon 24-Dec-18 21:10:19

Every bloody year I follow the instructions on the pack and every bloody year I reckon the sodding thing is over cooked. Bought a meat thermometer this year and going to start stabbing the bastard with it at least an hour before the instructed time grin

booellesmum Mon 24-Dec-18 21:13:20

Leave it out overnight. If you leave it in the fridge it'll still be frozen tomorrow.

LIZS Mon 24-Dec-18 21:17:37

Put it in a bath of cold water, change it again before you go to bed.

boatyardblues Mon 24-Dec-18 21:22:55

We have a 2.1kg stuffed turkey crown. It says defrost for 12 hrs at room temp or 48 hrs in the fridge.

Flowersonthewall Mon 24-Dec-18 21:24:31

Get the thing out on the side to defrost and then watch the royal family on tonight at half 10 😂

Thanks for all replies - wish me luck!!
