I have been kindly invited to an unexpected New Year's Eve celebration in someone's home in another country and would really like some help to think of some ideas for English food to contribute to the table.
There's a fair bit of space in my luggage for some tasty items.
All I can think of is a block of cheddar smile

Check if there's any food importation restrictions for that country.

Nice chutney maybe?

Scottish shortbread

Tin of shortbread biscuits.

Mince pies??? Christmas cake.

Cheese is a good call (depending on where you go).

Will keep thinking. My usual shopping list isnt typically party food (and I don't suppose vanilla extract, glace cherries, individual packets of fingers or jammy Dodgers or gingerbread figures, oxo cubes are going to hit the mark!).
Or, go to M&S and look at the seasonal, none fridge, section!

Oh yes, thanks, I hadn't thought of food restrictions.

Chutney is a good idea.

And shortbread of course.

I suppose a jar of marmite could be quite entertaining grin

Scottish smoked salmon?

Fruitcake? Shortbread? Fudge?

Great ideas. Fruit cake/Dundee cake definitely.
Thank you very much.

Depends on the country but some are rubbish for good flavoured crisps. Maybe pigs in blankets flavour!

I'd not bother with "Christmassy" things, take something that you know is hard to get in their country. When my family visit me I'm always grateful fir stock cubes, Marmite, piccalilli, healthy breakfast cereals, biscuits, chocolate, Ryvita, cream crackers etc. Oh, and a cheeky block of cheddar and ANYTHING pork based (bacon, salami, sausages)

AtleastitsnotMonday good call! I forgot my biggest ask - any salt & vinegar flavoured crisps/snacks! (It's been soooo long now sad)

Depending on where they are, nice milk chocolate
A nice fudge

Not party food but when I lived in east Asia I missed things like crumpets, potato cakes, soda bread
