Greek yoghurt, do you find it sweet enough to have as a dessert?

I am trying to be a bit healthier and move away from the little pots of yoghurt that come ready flavoured.

I have tried different types of greek yoghurt with fruit but its just not sweet enough. Tried adding a little honey, still really tart. I am not a sweet tooth really, just confused because work colleagues tell me they have it with a fresh fruit and its fine.

Is it just me?

Are you having the full fat one? The fat free ones are vile IMO. Full fat delicious with a dollop of those baby fruit puree pouches Blush

It's quite sharp.

Full fat proper Greek yoghurt with a big spoon of Greek honey is food of the gods.
Less than full fat is not worth it imo

You could try sprinkling on half a teaspoon, or even a whole teaspoon, of demerara sugar, preferably about 15mins before eating (not essential, but it sinks in to the yogurt to sweeten it). We all love it in this house!

Full fat with a teaspoon of lemon curd. Totally delicious and probably less sugar than the packaged yoghurt so. Probably.

Try the big tub in Aldi. So so creamy and not tart at all.

I usually have a huge amount of maple syrup on mine which totally negates the health benefits, but is bloody lovely!

Plain Greek yoghurt isn’t sweet. It isn’t meant to be. Creamy but not sweet. I can eat it on its own though because I like creamy and don’t mind the slight sharpness (it’s way less sharp than it used to be!). Maybe you’ve got so used to the sweetened ones that it seems very sharp by comparison? Keep going and your tastebuds might change?

It's a matter of letting your tastebuds adjust. Plain yoghurt contains a fair bit of natural sugar (lactose), so it does have a sweet taste but nowhere near as sweet as flavoured, sweetened yoghurt. If you are used to yoghurt tasting very sweet, it will take a while to get used to something less sweet. Maybe add honey or maple syrup and reduce the amount each time.
I agree that full fat Greek (or cheaper Greek style) is much nicer than low fat versions and ordinary natural yoghurt.

Yes with some muesli and blueberries

OK so I need to get the full fat stuff and persevere, maybe trying different combinations of fruit and maybe a little maple syrup.

You have given me some ideas, thanks everyone.

Asda do a tall, dark blue 1kg rectangular tub that isn't so tart. It's also reasonably priced.

You could add a dollop of your normal flavoured yoghurt to it and then gradually wean yourself off the normal stuff.

Marks and Spencers do a creamy one that I like. I don't remember it being tart..

I eat it for breakfast every morning with walnuts and fresh fruit.
I think it's just you OP Grin

It is amazing with maple syrup. Jam also works, you don't need much.

Definitely has to be the full fat version, low fat/fat free is vile. I eat it with strawberries/raspberries for breakfast, and sometimes a drizzle of honey if having it for a dessert.

I love Greek yogurt, I like the Aldi one. I usually add some granola which ruins it as a healthy snack though. I can no longer abide regular now

I use the sugar free syrups in mine. There's loads of flavours out there. My current favourite is gingerbread.
