Healthy Biscuit Substitutes?

Cheeseaddict1 · 01/11/2018 18:18

I've decided I need to cut down on my biscuit & cake consumption.
I'm breastfeeding my 5 month old and starving all the time but I want to snack a bit healthier.

Any ideas for snacks that are satisfying and won't make me feel miserable or like I'm missing out by eating them?

I'm not a fussy eater but not really a fan of nuts

Was going to suggest oat cakes with nut butter but you're not a fan of nuts Grin

Banana bread?

Flapjacks. I make flapjacks with oats, mashed bananas and/or applesauce, coconut oil, and a bit of syrup/honey/sugar every week. Then I add cocoa, chocolate chips, dried cranberries, whatever takes my fancy to jazz them up a bit.

Also, sliced apple with an individual cheese portion can go a long way.

Or chia pudding a plant milk, some cocoa and honey is a nice sweet treat with a bit of protein to keep you fuller. Lovely with berries.

Malt loaf is good and I really like the oatcakes you can get with dried berries in (think they're Nairns)
Chocolate covered rice cakes
Greek yoghurt with a drizzle of honey or some berries
Popcorn
I'm also a fan of dried cereal as a snack - like Shreddies

Rice cakes with cream cheese or hummous. If you fancy something sweet, get unsalted rice cakes and top with flavoured yogurt and fruit. I also like the caramel rice cakes, which are nice on their own.
Cherry bliss balls www.healthylittlefoodies.com/cherry-bliss-balls/
Sugar free jelly
Alpen Light cereal bar
Frozen yogurt. I've made these frozen yogurt granola cups www.kidspot.com.au/kitchen/recipes/frozen-yoghurt-granola-cups-4365
Frozen yogurt bark is also yummy www.myfussyeater.com/frozen-yogurt-bark/

Hummus on crackers
A banana
Yoghurt with blueberries
Rice cake with cream cheese (or nut butter)
Apple with a chunk of cheese
Date balls - just put dates and a mixture of nuts/seeds, honey, oats, mashed banana, raisins/other dried fruit, coconut, whatever you like really into a processor then shape into balls

I make cookies with oats and honey. They are lovely but also healthy.

The Nairn’s cheese oatcakes are bloody delicious, especially with humous. Very filling, and much less sugar, though it can be easy to consume a lot of calories (fine if you’re breastfeeding)
