I’m doing terribly at the moment when it comes to good nutrition. But it feels like soup season. And soup is so good for you (me). Please share your lovely soup recipes as I suspect just buying hot and sour soup from the takeaway is not exactly as nutritious as I’d like to believe.

This is my go to soup. I made it up after a bout of making 'freezer soup' where I get all the dregs/crap from the bags of frozen veg in the freezer and soup it (always start with onion and garlic softened)

I fry off onion till soft add garlic fry for about 5 mins on low.
Add half a bag of frozen butternut squash (Knight the person who invented this), 3 med carrots, 3 med potatoes and 500ml of chicken/veg stock.
Bubble till everything is cooked
Blend it up!
Season with a bit of nutmeg (really makes it) and serve.
I make a HUGE pot and would eat it for every meal. Sometimes I add cream if I feel fancy.

This is my current favourite - it makes a great lunch to take to work and keeps me full for ages

Lately I have been doing chicken soup.
Cut up 2 carrots, 2 sticks celery, small sweet potato and a white potato into small pieces.
Olive oil into pot, sauté veggies for 5 minuets.
Add low fodmap chicken broth and bring to boil. Reduce to simmer for 10 minuets.
Add 500 gm cut up chicken and German egg noodles, cook at a simmer for another 10-15 minuets, serve with chopped parsley and crusty bread

I like Asian style noodle soups.
Chicken or pork stock ( or veg if vegetarian).
Heat up and simmer with ginger, garlic, chilli, lime leaves, lemon grass, star anise etc.
In a bowl place rice noodles or cooked egg noodles. Add cooked meat of your choice, or cooked prawns, or wafer thin slices of raw steak, or tofu, plus sliced spring onion, Pak choi, julienne carrots, bean sprouts etc.
Strain hot broth over.
Last night had red lentil and butternut, made with chicken stock, coconut milk, ginger, garlic and Madras curry powder (ready made curry powder is goods in soup, but you could make your own or use a paste too). Cook and blitz.
Pioneer Woman's tortilla soup is great too.

Nigella's lentil and chestnut soup is perfect this time of year, also her frozen pea soup which is literally just frozen peas simmered in water with a stock cube and then blitzed.

Jamie Oliver has the most elaborate cauliflower cheese soup in his Great Britain book which is an incredible centrepiece and takes quite a while to make!! Kind of like a French onion soup with toasted cheese croutons on top.

And finally I make a lot of chowder, either veggie with corn and potatoes, or non-veggie with fish and seafood, here's my favourite recipe and you can throw almost anything into it: www.bbc.com/food/recipes/seafoodchowder_73917
