Fortnite cake - how do I build this?

Hello cake makers, I'm hoping there are some more experienced cake decorators on here that can help.
My son wants a similar cake to the one in the picture. I've told him the figure on top is beyond me and got a cake topper from easy like the one in the second picture. I've also managed to find the icing decal on the side of the cake. I think I can manage the pickaxe and the med kit but that chest looks tricky and the 'rock' along the outside of the cake might be hard to colour match. And the chocolate crumb used to mimic dirt, what do you think that is?
Also, how much beforehand would you bake the cake and start decorating? I'm using a chocolate cake mix (4 layers) and will do a chocolate icing crumb coating.
DS is aware it won't look exactly the same as the photo but I want to make it look as professional as possible.

Can you post a picture when you’ve done your cake?

I will. It's for next weekend so I'm headed to jobbycraft to pick up supplies this afternoon.

Chocolate soil can also be made of crushed up Oreos- remove the cream, and blitz the biscuit.

Or crushed chocolate bourbons.

Oreo actually sell bags of Oreo crumbs. I have some lurking in my cupboard, DH was tempted.

I tended to use toys to decorate their cakes. Lego, playmobile...

Ooooo, crushed biscuits for soil. I'll try that because invariably I bugger up when cooking sugar.

I was thinking of crushed Bourbons.

Here is the chest for the cake. I've still to smother it in edible gold glitter but i think it turned out ok!
I bought chocolate bourbon for the soil, but they got eatenBlush. Now have Oreos which neither DH or me like so they should survive!

Can you buy a Fortnite figure to go on the top?

Fantastic.
I'm also pleased to find another oreo disliker. I will eat them if it was the only food left in the world, but they also remain unscoffed in the cupboards.

Drum roll please! Here it is. DS may have gotten a bit carried away with the gold glitter spray and apparently the chug jug is too small but I think it's ok. I would have left off the big label because it covers my hard won 'rock' coloured fondant, but again, DS insisted. Next year he doesn't get to help Wink.
Thanks very much for the advice and links to tutorials, they were invaluable! I'm now going to have a cup of tea and scoff the bits of cake I cut off!
