Retro nibbles

Having a dinner party. Menu sorted - prawn cocktail followed by beef Wellington and birthday cake for dessert.
Do you having any suggestions, other than the obligatory cheese and pineapple on sticks, for a few retro nibbles?
Also what cocktail? was thinking pina colada but open to other ideas.
Thanks!

Vol au vaunts!

Ritz crackers with primula cheese or pate on top decorated with a bit of cucumber

Daquiri is quite a retro drink. But I think pubs cola is probably a retro favourite.

Hmmmm forgot about Primula.
Little chunks of 'ham' in the tube.

Small pieces of celery with primula piped down the centre

Vol au vents with tinned creamed mushrooms in the middle

I thought trifle (pref sherry) was obligatory for dessert or Black Forest gateau!

And you must have dry sherry with your nibbles Grin

I think Pina Colada would be a bit sickly if seved with nibbles!

I think a Martini would go with your menu. Or Gin and It.

I would do smoked salmon blinis but they aren't retro!

I had your menu for my 40th dinner party! Are you doing Delia's prawn cocktail?

Have a look on Nigella Lawsons website. She is queen of the nibble.

Try and find Fanny Cradock’s “cheese and wine party” on YouTube. I’m sure it’ll be on there somewhere .

DandelionandBedrock - I was thinking just same, also those horrendous vegetavegejlllll jellies in aspic we had when we were children, I think they might have been retro in the 70s.

I think the drinks shouid be dubonnet, campari and the various colours of martini - each with lemonade, plus snowballs (or save then for a Christmas party) and Babycham. Plus some sort of party keg fo quite low strength but very fizzy lager (don't think they make Harp or Doubke Diamond any more).

(Bombay Sapphire only turned up late 89s, so is probably too modern).

Devils on horseback, asparagus rolls, ham and cream cheese spirals, curried eggs (hardboil an egg, split in half, mix the yolk with mayonnaise and curry powder and pipe back into the egg).

Dry sherry is lovely, but serve it chilled in a proper wine glass, not one of those thimbles.

Perhaps a few bowls of things like cheeselets, twiglets and prawn cocktail skips, plus green olives in brine stuffed with red pepper.
