First week whereby toddler will be eating with us and I need to think of five family meals that I can get ready with as little fuss as possible by 6:30pm. I've ordered loads of cookbooks off Amazon but won't have them before the shop today AND I'm on the move and can't do proper internet browsing for recipes.

Please post your classic family recipes/ quick weeklies / cheat meals (including method and ingredients) and help me out :-) My pen is poised on the shopping list...

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/veggie-chilli%3famp

This is quick and easy, and my preschool age kids always eat it (to my surprise!).

Easy fish pie:

Mashed potato (I don't measure but enough to cover the top)
Frozen white fillets (half a bag sorts the 3 of us)
Peas
Grated cheese
Worcestershire sauce

Fish and peas in the dish (all still frozen) and add the cooked mashed potatoes, grated cheese and a sprinkle of Worcestershire sauce.
Bake for around 30-40mins at 180c.

We all love it and it's great that it can be prepared from ingredients in the freezer.

I don't understand.

You want to make your whole week's meals today and freeze them all?

Sorry should have been clearer. No need to freeze, just want meals planned mon-thurs. Have been on holiday and planning on doing the shop on way back. Our normal meals won't really work for toddler: we do lots of spicy, quite adventurous stuff. I need to shift to eg lasagnes, roasts etc. No dietary requirements. Thank you for suggestions!

Spaghetti and meatballs: meatballs, passata, peppers, Italian herb seasoning, spaghetti, serve with grated cheese.

Lamb koftas ready made in the supermarket, flatbreads, hummus and other dips, carrot and cucumber sticks for the toddler to dip, salad.

Meatloaf - mix 500g of pork mince with a chopped onion, a couple of handfuls of breadcrumbs, a beaten egg, and a squeeze of tomato ketchup. Line a greased loaf tin with streaky bacon and fill with the mixture. Roast in the oven for about 45 minutes at 200. Serve with potatoes and veg.

Macaroni cheese with cauliflower.

Get one of those roast chicken in a bag, doesn't need any prep, roast potatoes and veg.

Shakshuka tomato and egg with feta, easy to eat

Report
ivykaty44 · 05/08/2018 08:09

The shakshuka can be made without any spice and limited on spices- great for dunking chunky bread into

I like the chicken in a bag meals, we use chicken breast and serve with new potato and veg, though some chicken in a bag sachet you put the veggies in with the meat, makes cooking easy

Any left over meat is great with salad for lunch the next day

Cheeseburger pasta. Takes me about 30 minutes to prep and cook. All in one pot too.

You can ask on here for ideas, and expect people to write you out whole recipes but can't Google "risotto recipe"? Really? Hmm

Report
UrsulaPandress · 05/08/2018 08:28

And you normally cook spicy stuff but don't know the ingredients for a chilli or chicken in a bag (whatever that is).

@CherryBlossom23 I do apologise for offending you, I was just trying to find quick and easy recipes on the move and hoping for friendly responses, and only from those who wouldn't find it a problem or inconvenient to post a quick recipe they might have in their heads. But oh well

I do know how to cook a chillli. Jeez, I wish I'd never bothered asking now! I was just looking for a list I could write down quickly. Thanks for all those who have posted helpful responses, I think I've go enough now

No, I understand that you wanted ideas but you said up thread that you can't Google ideas easily which is a bit odd really. Most people are just going to give you the name of a dish, not the whole recipe, and expect you to do some googling on your own.

Veg risotto, then make arancini the following day.

If you do the fish pie up thread make extra mash and defrost some extra fish - make fishcakes.
