Just had a craving for Coronation chicken, made it for my DTeens ....Everyone has gone mad for it.
Made me think.....in these times of quinoa, butternut squash and halloumi (which I love) what retro food do you still serve?

Me?
I love a retro curry with raisins.
Can’t beat chicken Kiev.
And at a party I once served a tin foil wrapped grapefruit with cheddar and pineapple on cocktail sticks (like my mother used to serve) ironic obv, but it went down a storm.

really...if you have a grapefruit there's no need for the tin foil....the tinfoil is to disguise the potato you had to use instead of the stunt grapefruit.

I really like chicken kiev too, recently been making my own, but the butter never stays in.

I do like a quiche....with new potatoes and salad
and a blackforest gateau.

Prawn cocktail. Always loved it, always will.
Vol au vents
Banana split

I love a prawn cocktail, acceptable on iceberg lettuce but divine on half an avocado.

I haven't had a globe artichoke for ages, I really fancy one now. I used to love them in the 70s and 80s, my grandmother grew them in her garden and they were so tender and sweet.

Findus crispy pancakes. I know they're crap but I do miss them - I never buy them these days.

Vienetta! It always seemed so posh in the 80s but you can get it for a quid now - one day I'll get around to buying one and seeing if it's still the same.

Vienetta
Chicken Kiev. Our local makes home made and they are amazing.

Riotgrrrrrl Tue 10-Jul-18 20:05:13

And I bloody love toad in the hole still!

That chocolate sauce you put on ice cream, and it froze solid. Ice Magic?
Love that stuff.
I remember the advert with the skier, skiing frantically downhill, as an avalanche of the stuff chased him 😋

Yes to Coronation chicken, curry with sultanas (I think it was based on a more West African type curry than an Indian one, prawns in any form and I bring to the table - liver, bacon and onions, but obviously not in this weather and certainly not pig's liver.

Birds trifle. A treat on sundays. Arctic roll. Yum.

iwillinmyarse Tue 10-Jul-18 20:08:48

Butterscotch angel delight, chicken Kiev, prawn cocktail

Halfeatentoast Tue 10-Jul-18 20:10:49

Vienetta for me too
Artic roll
Tinned fruit and evaporated milk
Does blackforest gateau count as retro?

Pineapple upside down cake! With glacé cherries in the holes

I’m very fond of cheese and pineapple on a stick and serve it whenever we have a party!

jusdepamplemousse Tue 10-Jul-18 20:11:57

Another vote for chicken kiev.

Caremelised grapes.

Quiche Lorraine.

Home made deep fryer chips.

Churrolicious Tue 10-Jul-18 20:12:42

I have a desperate urge for chicken kiev now... I know what I'm buying tomorrow.

Do they MAKE Ice Magic anymore? It would blow the DC's tiny minds.

boldlygoingsomewhere Tue 10-Jul-18 20:12:49

Chicken vol-au-vents, Black Forest gateau and a trifle.

My mum used to make delicious vol-au-vents...

jusdepamplemousse Tue 10-Jul-18 20:13:05

Oh - mince carrots and spuds (might have to be Irish!) with HP sauce

Ted27 Tue 10-Jul-18 20:15:02

GlitterGlassEye Tue 10-Jul-18 20:15:27

DryWhiteagainW Tue 10-Jul-18 20:17:22

DryWhiteagainW Tue 10-Jul-18 20:18:47

Do you remember Space Dust? Not food, a sweet. But Ice Magic made me think of it....went in your mouth as crystals then just exploded!!!

DBoo Tue 10-Jul-18 20:19:15

I've just had sliced potato, onion and corned beef layered for my tea with dumplings. Beautiful.

Deux Tue 10-Jul-18 20:20:15

Prawn cocktail. Occasionally I make DH and i prawn cocktail as a kind of Friday night snack. Yum.

But really it would have to be cheese Findus crispy pancakes, McCain oven chips, brown sauce and arctic roll for pudding with chocolate sauce.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble Tue 10-Jul-18 20:21:25

I love cheesy pineapple sticks , steak in peppercorn sauce , prawn cocktail , soup starters , gateau
