Looking for squash drinks that still have sugar in.

Background; Youngest daughter: had severe IUGR, severe failure to thrive and has hovered round the 0.4th. Has to have a very high calorie diet just to maintain her weight. Has benign bone tumours from fibeorous dysplasia. She is due to have another hip op next month.

My big problem is the sugar-tax. In principle its fine, a good idea for most but the reality has me pulling my hair out. My daughter will only drink fluids when she is in a lot of post-op pain...the rub is she is only supposed to have fruit squashes that contain real sugar and no sweetners in as she needs the extra energy. She does not like Ribena when she has morphine based drugs as it makes her sick. Lucazade has removed sugar too. All the peach and similar squashes I can find are sugar free. I would make my own but it does need to be a made squash to be kept on the ward for her.

Help- suggestions of brands and flavours that still contain sugar needed before she goes in to hospital in two weeks time.

Sainsbury's own brand high juice squash has sugar and no artificial sweeteners.

Hi juices in Sainsbury’s Asda and Tesco have a limited number of real squash. They usually have a different coloured lid. The choice is diminishing but usually can get black currant orange and one other depending on store.

Or give her sweets instead.

Have a look at the Belvoir and Bottlegreen ones (and the supermarket versions of) - they contain sugar

we have started importing squash from france - my parents go fairly often so we now have a regular order of sirop de cassis, although i might get into some other flavours now that i've realised i can!

don't know how practical this suggestion is...

You want to look for cordials rather than squash

Thank you all, from your posts I have suddenly realsied I need to stop prowling the kids drinks aisles and try and hunt down where the adult cordials with all the nice sugar have been hidden. Hopefully I might be bale to find a Peach based one as that has always been her fave go to flavour when all the post op pain meds make her so sick.

Heratnumber7: Nice idea. Wish I could offer her some sweets to suck. The poor kid still has all the ortho-metal work wiring everything in place on her lower jaw and that has been wired to her top. She is still mostly living on anything that is high calory that she can slurp.

If anyone does spot a sugar based Peach Cordial I would love to know the brand and which chains/ online specialist is stocking it as that really is Elly's fave flavour to drink when she needs dia-morphine and diazapam to get through the first day post op.

Rose's lime cordial has sugar rather than sweetner. Robinsons barley water do sugar-free and also 'normal' flavours which have sugar (as well as some saccharin) in.

This sounds really random, but would she drink slush puppies?
You can get the syrup online on Amazon Prime in cherry and raspberry, it's made with high fructose corn syrup. It does have a bunch of artificial colours in, though.
A friend of mine has similar problems and drinks it diluted as a sort of squash - apparently when diluted with ice water it tastes like a melted slush puppie!

What about disolvable vitimin C - I love the taste as it's orange and used to be full of sugar. Maybe you could cut the tablets into smaller chunks to make it more age appropriate.

Not quite squash but peach ice tea? Not sure if they've removed the sugar from Fanta fruit twist?

Have you ever tried going into an American style sweet shop? There's a few around and they often have whole shelves of funky sugary drinks?

Expensive but you could order some Tessiere Sirop Peche online. French online deli type websites sell it. Try //www.frenchclick.com. Peachy, sugary, should do the job.
They also sell other flavours.

Sainsbury's do a high juice peach and grape that is delicious. I usually buy sugar over sweetners so would think that it is a sugar one. Also Morrisons have sugar hi juice

Ocean Spray Cranberry and Cranberry & Raspberry still has proper sugar in it. I get mine in Morrison's.

I got Vedrenne vanilla syrup from Ocado- it's used to flavour your coffee but I have mixed it with water for a squash type drink. I looked online and you can get peach flavour here
It seems to be made from sugar rather than sweeteners.

You can make your own. Maybe milkshakes? Asda sells the most amazing vanilla milkshake with plenty of sugar.

We made elderflower cordial this year, mostly out of sugar. It is delicious.
