Favourite uses of honey?

DS asked me to get him some honey because he had it on his porridge at nursery and liked it!

Never been a massive honey fan myself but wondering what other recipes I can use it in?

So - what are your favourite uses for honey? 🍯

My favourite use for honey is on my skin when I've burnt myself on the oven - again. I'll never learn.

I prefer golden syrup on porridge but only use honey if it's in a recipe or mix it with wholegrain mustard when cooking belly pork.

I like a drizzle of honey on natural yoghurt - my favourite breakfast!

Petrolismygas · 24/06/2018 09:29

Pour it on shredded wheat.

Mix with soy sauce and herbs for a chicken or pork marinade

NannyR · 24/06/2018 09:33

I mix it with soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic for a stirfry sauce.
Or, in the case of the locally produced, raw honey I buy from the farm shop, just eat it directly from the jar!!!

Roast Butternut squash with cumin and honey is lovely

TheSunshineBox · 24/06/2018 09:36

DCs love it drizzled over cream cheese on a bagel, with a tiny sprinkle of cinnamon!

Honey and yogurt.

Honey drizzled on goats cheese with walnuts either on salad or bread. Lush.

butternut squash sounds yum LouieLou2013

On crusty white bread with butter. Or toast. Honey and mustard salad dressing. In marinades with soy sauce, ginger etc.

TheNumberfaker · 24/06/2018 10:03

Toast

Tisfortired · 24/06/2018 12:21

I think the way to go is to use it in cooking, I just tried one of it straight from the bottle and don't like it at all!

Definitely going to give some of these cooking ideas a go though!

Used withh oil when roasting vegetables, especially parsnips with pepper and asparagus and lemon

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 24/06/2018 12:25

Honey never goes off so you don't need to use it up, just have it for your child who likes it on porridge if you don't like it.

I like it with avocado, black pepper and lemon juice, I have it in my tea and coffee, on toast, added to salad dressings, sauces, to make caramelised onions...all sorts of uses.

Creatureofthenight · 24/06/2018 12:25

Honey and wholegrain mustard - brush onto sausages (or other meat I guess) and cook in the oven.

AdaColeman · 24/06/2018 12:35

In yoghurt, or ice cream, especially with raspberries.

Mixed with mustard (any type) and spread on meat before roasting, with rack of lamb works very well.

Stirred into herbal tea.

With raspberry vinegar as a salad dressing.

Served with hot Greek cheese pastries.

Honey doesn't have a used by date, so no rush to finish it.

'I eat my peas with hunny,
I've done it all my life.
It makes them taste quite funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.'

Ridingthegravytrain · 24/06/2018 12:50

On hot buttered crumpets. Mmmm

LemonysSnicket · 24/06/2018 14:06

Mixed into Greek yoghurt, drizzled on warm goats cheese with mint, walnuts and figs, or put it in a stir fry with 5 spice

LemonysSnicket · 24/06/2018 14:11

I also use it rather than sugar in tea

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/06/2018 14:28

Nigella's Honey Semifreddo - utterly delicious!

wiccamum · 24/06/2018 14:31

Honey and nutmeg roasted parsnips
Honey roasted carrots, chuck in a few garlic cloves/chestnuts/ whatever needs using up too.
Honey cake
On pancakes, with fresh berries too 😋

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2018 14:36

On porridge with blackberries or blueberries and some seeds

On homemade pancakes with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and mixed berries

Use it in various recipes eg: to make sausage casserole (with grainy mustard, paprika and passata), in stir fries with soy sauce and chilli sauce

With lemon juice and maybe whisky to make a hot toddy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2018 14:39

Easy peasy carrots -

chop into matchsticks
cover in water and microwave until almost done
drain - add a drizzle of honey and some salt and pepper and war through when ready to eat

Love these with a really lazy Sunday lunch of bought nut cutlets, bought Yorkies etc
