Help! Need birthday 'cake' ideas for a diabetic

A friend of mine just turned 60 and our group is meeting up on Saturday. I don't know any specifics of what she can and can't have, just that she's diabetic and is on a pretty restricted diet. She has a wicked sense of humour and what I essentially need is something she can blow out candles on and then slice and eat. It can be anything, but I'm a bit stumped apart from sticking some candles on a carrot...

Well I'm diabetic and would happily have a normal cake. Don't bother looking for a diabetic cake. They are awful and just as 'bad' as normal one.

If she is on a restrictive diet...do you mean v low carb? You could do a cheese cake? I don't mean a cheesecake, a slab of cheese basically!

DH is type 1 diabetic and eats sugar - he wouldn't miss out on a birthday cake!

Unless you happen to know that their diabetes is poorly controlled then I would do the same cake as you would for anybody else.

in the olden days people used to ice a cardboard cake. you could stick some candles on that. would that work?

Someone suggested cake to her and she (very politely) turned it down due to being diabetic - I know very little about it, I'm afraid, but she has mentioned being able to eat burgers, cheese, peanuts and eggs, so I guess that's low carb?

My initial thought was a fruit cake (i.e. fresh fruit stacked up to look like a cake) but I'm guessing that wouldn't work for her due to fructose?

I guess I could just pop some candles in a burger patty with a slice of cheese on top!

If she eats fish then Smörgåstårta (Scandinavian sandwich cakes) can look very cool and realistic. No idea what they taste like though.

Or you could take inspiration from savoury wedding cakes and go for cheese wheels or savoury pies, some of them look beautiful stacked up with grapes and figs.

The cake made of fruit is a lovely idea as well. Lots of diabetics reduce their fruit intake but I don't think many cut it out completely. Could you check with her if she eats fruit?

lots change for diet accordingly as they don't want to miss out.
there are those using almond mix that reduce the carbs and sugar hugely.these go great in things like almond and ornage cakes and chocolate and almond cakes where you can reduce sugar and carbs easier if you use the right chocolate.
or how would you feel if you could do a massive burger.like in the ize and style of a cake.this would be quite fun for her. to have candles in thend slice.

My DF does a nice diabetic lime cheesecake with sweeteners in it... no idea of the recipe, but there's always Google I suppose?

You could make a large jelly (sugar free jelly crystals) packed with berries in a lovely mould or terrine. Decorate with cream and more berries.
