Well for lunch a few weeks ago , I had a chicken panini which I overcooked badly so was hard to eat.

Went to a Chinese restaurant. As the only veggie in the group I ordered the seasonal vegetables. It was a bowl of cooked lettuce. hmm

Eel and chips. I was a small child and the rules of the house were you could not leave the table until your plate was clear. Even the labradors turned their noses up at that dish.

My sister (as a teenager) made us a bowl of pasta with a sauce that consisted of a tin of chopped tomatoes warmed through with a jar of pickled onions mixed in. It was inedible.

My dad's corned beef hash, aka splat. Boiled potatoes and onions with a tin of corned beef mashed into it.

Spinach lasagne in Warsaw - it was cold and gross.

My grandmother also specialised in awful food. Boiled floury potatoes (all fluffy and dry on the plate) and watery mince with bits of carrots floating in it. And you weren’t allowed a drink til you’d eaten it so that you didn’t ‘fill your stomach up with water’.

Or the same horrible boiled potatoes with tinned meat. You might get some seriously overlooked green veg of some sort with it too.

Vegetarian curry in a trendy restuarant in san francisco - it was full of cloves, tasted really bizzare

Paid for, it was in a branch of Wahaca. Dreadful-tasting lukewarm food and careless service.

Kindly provided, it was something unrecognisable and indescribable in a foreign exchange host's home. It looked and spooned like refried beans, but smelt like cat food. Mind over matter deployed to not let it show that I was on the verge of tears.

‘Noodles’ in Germany - slimy, fat white worms on a plate that made me actually gag

It was a Japanese restaurant, various dishes (sort of tapas style), all revolting. The crab bun nearly made me vomit, I literally had one bite of each dish.

It's fermented bean curd - v popular asian food apparently. I saw it in the health food shop and thought well I like tofu, so I'm sure I'll like this. I knew as I stir fried it that it would be dreadful but thought I'd be brave as some things smell hideous but taste delicious. Nope - it tasted like actual vomit that someone had poured a bottle of Zoflora onto! I couldn't eat more than two mouthfuls.

There was half a block in the fridge left over - when I opened the fridge next morning, I caught a whiff and actually threw up all over my own feet shock

Valentine's day 2009. DH convinced me to actually eat out for once agoraphobia & I was anxious the whole time, my pizza was burnt & the dessert gave me an itchy rash.

Worse meal ever was in a hotel near Tenby.
Everything seemed to have been taken out of a freezer and very briefly microwaved so a curious (and disgusting) combination of almost frozen and raw. We returned it and refused to pay.
Breakfast was 'room service '- two slices of stale bread, one wrapped butter pat between us and two biscuits in a packet 😳
Needless to say we won't be returning!

DH persuaded me to go to lunch at our local garden centre. It was empty in there - for good reason. I had quiche and salad, one mouthful and I nearly vomited. It was so badly off, I could taste it for days. They apologised, and offered me another piece that was exactly the same. I suggested that if the chef/cook couldn't see when something had gone off, they needed glasses. I didn't eat properly for days after, really turned my stomach.

Razor clams. Thought they’d be like little clams. They weren’t. Worst meal ever!!!

Haggis on the Isle of Skye in some dodgy pub. Awful.

Away to a seaside cottage with my in laws the train was delayed getting DH and I out there after work.MIL kindly anticipated we might be hungry but hadn't packed to cater for that meal. She offered up the boiled chicken drumsticks she'd made for the dogs' dinner, of the cheapest possible chicken. I feigned a big lunch, but DH was too hungry to refuse... we still giggle about it.

My husband tried to make a spaghetti bolognese. Except all he put in was mince and tomato purée 🤢

Papercutsand Fri 16-Feb-18 20:54:07

Faggotts and mushy peas as a kid 🤢

Invited to a festival celebrated with a traditional dish. Unaware till it was served that it was pigs cheeks, ears and snout. Surprisingly vast amount of bristles on the plate . It was served with a local speciality vegetable which made spinach taste anaemic. Went veggie for long time after. Fab festival and great company so it was worth it.

A tomato-based pasta dish that also had cauliflower and pomegranate mixed through it. It was supposed to be a fairly decent restaurant too....

k567 Fri 16-Feb-18 20:57:03

I moved house, our new oven was out of action. Craved a roast. Invited to MIL's for a 'roast' that turned out to be shitty sausages, roast potatoes cooked in dirty fat, microwaved carrots and baked beans.

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown Fri 16-Feb-18 21:01:55

Pasta, mince, mixed with condensed cream of mushroom soup and condensed cream of tomato soup. Boooaaaakkk envy

Ooh I can answer this. It was yesterday

Frankie and bennys chicken avocado bacon salad. Swimming in sickly dressing. Not only was it disgusting, it made my lips and tongue go numb and tingly. Absolutely yuck.
