What's this? (German food)

I've been given these.

The Goldsaft tastes almost but not quite like treacle. The Apfelschmaus tastes, oh, heavenly, but I can't work out what it is. The ingredients are apple, pear, sugar, pectin, but it's not like jam.

What are they and how are they normally used?

Syrup made from sugar beet pulp.

"Fruity bread spread" - apple spread. My German husband says weird German stuff!

Use the syrup like you would treacle or golden syrup.

So they're just straightforward syrup to cook with and jammy stuff to put on bread? Not used for anything special?

I would put the apple stuff on pancakes, personally.

Don't put the syrup on pancakes though, it will be a disappointment! Don't try using it instead of golden syrup . Just use it as a substitute for normal sugar.

Yes, sugar beet syrup - use on buttered bread/toast, pancakes, in baking etc etc.
The Dutch are really big on this stuff too - goes well with cheese!

Mil uses this for all her Xmas baking. English syrups do not work apparently!!

it's like fruit winders in a wet state.
basically apples slow cooked in syrup/molasses antil brown and gooey with the consistency of jam.
intense flavour, great for baking wherever the recipe asks for honey or golden syrup.
