what can I use instead?

it's for a baked beans recipe.

Extra sugar? or maple syrup?

Don't have any honey either.

Any sugar will work fine. Brown if possible. Molasses just gives a deeper and richer flavour and unlike most sugar is bursting with iron and nutrients so is actually good for you! In moderation anyway smile

black treacle - do you have any of that?

or you can try sugar and balsamic vinegar

I use the darkest brown sugar I happen to have. A splash of Balsamic sounds tasty, I will give that a try.
