Hi, Dr's told me to stop eating Wheat, Gluten & Dairy. Also i dont like peppers or spicy spices. Always cooking with Garlic and Onions.
Does not have to contain meat - tbh would like more non meat recipies.
I need ideas for lunch and dinner.
Its just me and DD (DD can eat anything though)
Thank you Thank you

Oh heck that's hard isn't it.

Well, you can buy ranges of gluetn free bread, pasta etc. Look in the free-from aisle at Sainsbo's. Not cheap tho and I don't suppose they taste the same.

Otherwise I guess rice is OK? Use that instead of pasta with a sauce eg onions, mushrooms and tomato or bolog sauce.

Lots of fruit and veg. Actually a friend did this once (for health reasons) also no fruit and I made her shepherd's pie with no butter in the mash. Worked quite well.

Or are you looking at grilled chicken or fish with veg and potatoes? Not great, is it.

Baked potatoes with a veggie sauce filling? Lots of lovely veg soups eg leek and potato, carrot and coriander (no butter tho)

Gosh it's hard isn't it!? Is this allergy related?

Its a mixture of illness and allergy - funny thing is mum has always said to me she thought i had a allergy to wheat, gluten & dairy but i have never really taken much notice.
Im so used to feeling ill most days that its 'normal' to me now. (it feels strange to me when im not feeling ill )
I dont know if its in my head or not but i have only cut all that out for 2 days now and i feel happier, i have had a normal poo (sorry TMI), no tummy pains.
I bought some Free from pasta (not bad really) and Free from Bread (yuck - can just about have it as toast if i eat fast)
Man i need a snack, im so used to snacking on crisps, biscuits, cakes of an evening.

I paid nearly £3 for a tiny loaf of Free from bread, its about 1/2 the size of normal bread - AND to top it when i opened the bag there was a big hole through the bread, from an air bubble i guess, but it means the bread is now 1/4 the size of normal bread!!

Hi MagicalMay - I tried the no-wheat & gluten thing for my DH and it was tough. We gave up, but then he didn't have a diagnosis, just something we tried. You will be more motivated. There are a few recipes around for making your own bread but I have to say the ones I tried weren't a huge success.

The coeliac disease associations in the UK and the US and various support groups have quite a few recipes online.

you need xanthan gum (get it from asda or from Barbaraskitchen.co.uk) .. its a stabiliser .. you put a teaspoon of it into bakign with non-gluten flours and it acts like the gluten ...you could make cakes and pizza bases etc

you'll never find a decent bread I'm afraid

the pastas can be ok but you really need to follow the instructions to the letter

all of Lloyd Grossman's pasta sauces are gluten free (you have to check for the dairy thing)

I suppose you need quick dishes

rice dishes .. stir fries ... casseroles .. soups ...

Magical May you can snack on fruit and veg tho

How about cherry toms, apple, grapes, raisins, oranges.

Cucumber sticks, maybe with a dip like humous or guacamole?

Or I was thinking risotto, no butter or cheese tho so mot great.

My I would find this hard, you have my sympathies. Bet you'll feel great tho.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm humous and crackers mmmmmmmmmmmmm i have some in the fridge, you just reminded me
Wow i dont think i've ever been so hungry. I mean nothing is filling me up lol. Yeah i snack on fruit and carrots but they dont seem to fill me up. I made a massive roast dinner on sunday - lots of potatos, meat, lots and lots of veg .............. I was still hungry after!!!!
Bought some bread from Asda called 'Dietary Special' and as toast it was great it was just like normal toast but 1/4 the size hehe. Why is the bread soooooooooo small??

Twiglett - Proceli rolls warmed up are virtually as good as bread! You can get them from big Tescos and they're a fortune, but definitely worth it. I buy a packet (over £2 for 3...) a week and have wonderful ham rolls over each weekend!

But MagicalMay - has your dr done a test for coeliac disesase? If you've got coeliac you can get food on prescription, but in order to be tested you need to keep eating wheat and gluten. gluten-free food is very expensive and most of it's bobbins - I prefer Juvela to Glutafin. Juvela have a website and they'll send you some freebies if you register and ask for a free introductory pack!

I tend to have salads for lunch these days - either a rice/tuna/bean salad, or mixture of tomatoes, roasted vegetables, cottage cheese (but that's dairy - sorry). Or jacket potatoes come in handy.

if you do a search for moomin on www.babyledweaning.com you'll find lots of chickpea/gram flour experimentation as her wee girl is a bit allergicky. lots of good beanburger type recipes that are great for lunch. also, and i know that this is a bit ponce... things like tuna eaten off a big bit of celery or nice little gem lettuce leaf can actually be rather satisfying.

I did a not quite so severe exclusion diet a few years back & found mixes of nuts & dried fruit good for snacking. It does get easier, though the 1st cheese sandwich when I finished after 4 or 5 months was bloody delish!!

Clary - no I'm not from Sheffield, from Manchester though! Love the word bobbins - can't be used enough, especially at work in posh meetings..!

Ah dottydot excellent

Bobbins is a word I acquired from a former colleague from Sheffield (hence question) and often baffles peopel but I love it too. Especially in the most formal settign possible!
