Indian vegetarian cookbook

Just that really! Please could I have your recommendations for tried-and-tested, dog-eared, sauce-splattered cookbooks? I am hoping to get one for Christmas but I don't know much about Indian cooking and found the amount of Google / Amazon results overwhelming.

I do like glossy pics and step-by-step guides but I'm an experienced cook and can cope with brief instructions too.

I love to read a bit of background on recipes and ingredients.

I am fine with metric / Imperial/ American cups etc.
