If you avoid butter, what do you use?

Flora? Olive oil spread? I need to get rid of butter but need something nice tasting to substitute it. Any suggestions?

Why do you need to get rid of butter? That will help to know what to suggest as an alternative...

Why would you? Butter is the best. Anything else just isn't worth considering. Unless it's an allergy issue?? If it's a weight issue just spread it a little thinner. 🙂

If you can't put butter in it, it's not worth having.

I use coconut oil sometimes for baking. Have to have butter on toast and scones. I can handle mayo instead of butter in a sandwich if there's salady stuff in it. Good olive oil is ok for dipping crusty bread into, especially if it's flavoured. It's OK for making garlic bread too.

I've never avoided butter so was the smuggest person on the block when it turned out that all the butter substitutes are what are bad for you.

I do occasionally use olive oil though.

I need to lose weight and thought it was a reallllllly bad thing to eat so thought I should go all Flora light or something Sad is it not really all that bad?
For toast, croissants, sandwiches etc just normal stuff. I don't think I will be popular in this house Hmm

A moderate amount of butter is much much better for you than over processed stuff like flora. Plus it tastes infinitely better.

If you’re cutting it out purely for the heath factor have you tried switching to the plant based one? It’s far better for you and they also do a light version of it so it’s even better!

I don’t really use butter but I was making fairy cakes earlier today so I picked some up Smile

I use butter

I hate the substitutes
Margarine especially makes me feel sick

And butter on new potatoes with salt and black pepper is heavenly 😊

Butter is not bad for you in small quantities either, that’s a myth

I'd have the butter in smaller quantities.

Like cheese, buy a decent strong cheddar and use less.

Don't cut out butter, it's a good fat. Same as yoghurt or mayo etc don't buy the fat free, they're bad. If you wish to consider healthy eating where you'll lose weight, look into LOW CARB HIGH FAT - LCHF, seriously, cut out those carbs and you'll be amazed at how healthier you feel and how weight comes off. I say this from experience, look into it and good luck xx

I love love love butter! I'm now doing Weightwatchers. I can still eat butter! Just not great slabs of it on toast Blush
Half a teaspoon (level) is enough for one slice of bread. I think it would be classed as a 'scraping' but due to the gorgeous lovely tastiness of butter it is still enough Smile

I grew up on Flora but have been using butter for the last few years as no scary ingredients! I've never found that butter vs other spreads for sandwiches, toast, etc made a blind bit of difference to my weight. Eating less bread in general (and certainly no croissants) makes a massive difference for me though! And I don't low-carb more generally, its the bread products that seem to make a difference for me.

I use butter, and I like it trowelled on. But often I substitute for Mayo or humous if it isn't the main event, ie in a sandwich rather than on a crumpet.
