Just about to make myself crumpets with proper butter and homemade plum jam (can't take the credit for the jam, was a gift from a friend) What's your favourite simple/basic comfort food?

Apple crumble and custard

Bluesheep8 · 14/10/2017 09:52

Ooh lovely ricekrispie, that's pudding for tomorrow decided then!

Cheese and ketchup toasties (done in sandwich toaster).
Can't remember when I last had one but they're good.

Cheese and potato pie with a poached egg

catiinbo0ts · 14/10/2017 10:29

Jacket potato with a fuckton of butter, grated mature cheese, salt and loads of pepper

LemonadeWithACherry · 14/10/2017 11:01

What I'm making right now because I feel rough: porridge with cream and golden syrup. Reminds me of staying with my lovely Scottish gp's.

Bluesheep8 · 14/10/2017 11:58

And beans on toast, with loads of Worcester sauce in, an obscene amount of butter on the toast and grated extra extra mature cheddar cheese on the top - beeeaut !!!

Rice pudding or macaroni cheese.

CountessofGrantham · 14/10/2017 12:07

Cheesy marmite pasta. Pretty much as it says - pasta, marmite stirred in and then oodles of grated cheese. 😋

sureitsgrand · 14/10/2017 12:09

A cheese sandwich on soda bread with real butter. Just about to eat one now. Cheese seems to be a common theme for alot of people!

Bluesheep8 · 14/10/2017 12:11

Yes sureitsgrand, I was just thinking that a lot of our fave comfort food involves cheese...interesting

I see a carb theme here 🥔🥐🍞🥖

I'm pretty sure carbs do something to set off happy hormones or whatever. Mine are:-

Cheese on toast with ketchup
Mash with pesto
Pesto pasta
(I really love pesto!)

When I do low carb I feel a bit depressed!

MotherofPearl · 14/10/2017 19:10

Sometimes I take a portion of bolognaise sauce (must be homemade!) out of the freezer, defrost, heat up and scoff it covered in loads of grated cheese - with no pasta. Blush

oldlaundbooth · 14/10/2017 19:11

Rice pudding made with evaporated milk.

Cookingongas · 15/10/2017 08:26

Mince and dumplings- suet dumplings are a comforting warming deliciousness that tragically seems to be falling out of favour. Rich savoury mince with a parsley dumpling dropped in and steamed till light and fluffly= heaven

PosieNarka · 15/10/2017 17:48

Roast chicken with roast potatoes and parsnips etc (or roast beef with Yorkshire puddings)

Dauphinoise potatoes

Freshly baked bread with butter

Cheese & ham toastie

Apple (or rhubarb) crumble

NeonSun · 16/10/2017 06:28

Different sandwiches, the most of all I adore the classic ones, I mean with ham/sausage and cheese :)
Also pan fried eggs, toast bread and spicy fried meat.

FlossieCharlieCat · 16/10/2017 06:48

Cheese on toast with ketchup and a mug of tea Smile
