What do you eat when you've got no kitchen?

we're having our kitchen replaced, and it will be out of action for two weeks. the DC are thrilled at the prospect of a fortnight of takeaways, but I can't say that I am.

We'll have a microwave, and DH is borrowing a one-ring camping stove, but apparently that takes ages just to cook a pan of pasta, so wouldn't want to do anything ambitious on it.

So far I've got brain fog, and can only think of rotisserie chicken and soups.

Can you get or borrow a slow cooker?

fish in the microwave, jacket potatoes, I've even made a chilli in micro when we were getting our kitchen re done.

Cook food now that can be frozen and heated in the microwave (even if it has to be kept in a friend's freezer)

We went for six weeks without a kitchen (just moved in and it turned out the wiring etc was dodgier than we had been led to believe plus a load of other issues).

Those old microwave cook books came in very handy, I grabbed a couple from a charity shop.

I've never got on with slow cookers. I know some people adore them, but I just can't get to grips with them.

Do you have a toaster? If so then beans/spaghetti on toast.

Hi, we have just been through this! It is a PITA ( new to Mumsnet so hope that means what I think?!🙈
We had a microwave, camping stove and a panini machine. We had lots of pasta( it does take a little while) stir fries , toasties, baked potatoes . Salads with chicken breasts . We even managed a fry up! The panini machine was great for hash browns and bacon! Ready meals from M&S were a godsend! But even so we did end up with quite a few takeaways
I hope yours is a quicker installation than ours !

When our kitchen was being redone, we got a George foreman grill and cooked meat sausages and burgers on it. We had a big stock of frozen jacket potatoes and rice in the freezer and in the week or 2 running up to the event did double dinners so I could freeze the extra. Double Bolognese, stew, curry, pasta sauce etc.

make and freeze curries, chilli, soups and stews. Serve with microwaved rice, baked potatoes or mash (frozen).
Sandwiches, toasties.
Beans on toast,
salad.

There isn't much you won't be able to have really, you just need to preprepare or simplify: single ring stoves which run on the small canisters are actually pretty good, but make sure you have a window open.

Soup and toast, baked beans on toast. Can you borrow a sandwich maker and do cheese toasties?

Actually when my dd was having her kitchen done I bought her a plug in combi oven thing, I think it was by Phillips but there are lots of them, it was a microwave but you could also bake /roast in it too. It cost about £90 if I recall, and she sold it on afterwards for about £50 .

DH would happily live off pot noodles for ever a fortnight, but I am a fussy cow.
