Easy fish recipes for novice

I have always hated fish/seafood but want to be able to cook it for the rest of my family (partner, DD12 and DD18 months). Does anyone have any basic recipes? Anything that doesnt smell too strong would be great (so no smoked kippers Grin)

Thanks!

Fish cooks really well in foil parcels in the oven. Really simple, minimum fiddling with it!
Loads of combos but salmon with sweet chilli sauce or spring onion, ginger, garlic splash of white wine or olive oil
Or cod with lemon juice, black pepper and herbs, or marinated with yoghurt and curry paste or topped with mango chutney.
Other really simple ideas are adding prawn to stir fry or chopped smoked salmon to pasta with cream cheese, peas and sweetcorn.
Fish cakes are also a big hit with the kids.

If you have a barbecue or even buy the disposable ones it's a great way of cooking fish because its out of doors, and I think the smell of fish cooking in the house is one of the reasons people don't to more of it. Foil parcels on the outdoor grill are my favourite way of cooking it, basically its just steaming it really quickly.

You can use meaty fish like monkfish or prawns in a curry

Salmon in foil is so easy. Piece of salmon on a large sheet of foil. Add a slosh of oil or white wine, lemon juice and some herbs. Make a parcel out of the foil (pull up the sides) so it's sealed at the top but there's room for steam above the salmon. In the oven for 15-20 mins (depending on size). Plonk on a plate and pour over the juice (maybe not if you used oil!). Nice with Fine beans, asparagus or salad

Put salmon fillets (individually) on a square of foil with a knob of butter. Add a few cherry tomatoes (and asparagus if you like it - the really skinny spears work best) sprinkle on salt and pepper anc close the foil loosely to make a parcel. In oven 200 deg c15 - 20 mins.
Cod fillet - put in an oven proof dish with a little fresh orange juice and salt and pepper. Mix some breadcrumbs with melter butter, crushed garlic, chopped parsley. Spread on top of fish. 200 deg oven till fish is cooked and breadcrumbs golden brown. 25 - 30 mins.
Fish tacos - mix 1/2 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp cumin, 2 cloves crushed garlic, salt and 2 tbsp sunflower oil together. Spread over cod fillets and leave to marinate for 1-2 hours. Grill on barbecue or on griddle pan. Serve with shredded cabbage, salsa, soured cream etc on warm tortillas

Tuna steaks - fry them, just like normal steak.

I like them with egg noodles, spring onions and soy sauce.
