High fat and high sugar foods for toddler but must be dairy free

Foreverhopeful22 · 23/07/2017 14:24

My toddler is on a high fat diet and high sugar diet under a dietician

She is totally dairy free

I'm running out of ideas, I use mayo, and oil.

She eats crisps and sweets

Tonight she has two fried egg as she eats both the yolk and only one white.

She is still 1 1/2 kg underweight

Dietician is useless with ideas, other than custard.

Anyone got any ideas what else I can start using.

Should add can't eat fruit even the smallest amount will cause horrific acid .

Help please

Bunloaf - she is not too keen unless it's peanut butter (dairy free) smothered in cinnamon

Nuts in general not keen

How about homemade flapjacks?
Put 125g vitalite dairy free spread, 100g light brown sugar & 5 tbsp golden syrup in a saucepan. Warm on a low heat till melted. Then add 250g oats. Mix well. Line a 20cm x 15cm tin with baking paper. Spread mix eventually. Cook in middle of oven at gas 6 for approx 15-20 min till a nice golden colour. Cool in the pan for 30 mins then take out & let cool on baking paper for a further 30 mins then cut into 15 squares. Once cold they keep for up to a week in an airtight container.

Op we were in a similar position (still are to some extent). This is what we tried:

Oatly foamable milk is high calorie (60 cal per 100ml), plus oatly cream has loads of calories.

Can you ask for them to prescribe "neocate spoon"? When we were in the same place as you, neocate spoon is a white powder with 180 calories (or thereabouts) that we used to mix with cocoa powder and oatly cream for a calorific chocolate pudding, or with a fruit pot.

Have you tried vegan cheese? it's good for a cheesy taste when doing cheesy pasta or similar. It's also worth trying the free-from range in supermarkets- they have fish fingers, chicken nuggets etc with no dairy.

If I think of anything else I'll post again.

Does she like ice cream? There are a few dairy free ones now in supermarkets. Alpro does a choc hazelnut one.

Have you tried Genius Chocolate Muffins? They are dairy free.

I make "rice flake porridge" (basically quick rice pudding but sold in free from section as oat porridge alternative) with soya milk and add honey and dairy free chocolate hazelnut spread. Delicious!
Tesco and Sainsbury's both have reasonable dairy free cheese ranges now - could you add that to e.g. beans, potatoes etc.?

Peanut butter?

Bananas? (If these don't give acid).

Make your own humous with lots of olive oil.
You say she's not keen on nuts it's worth trying ground nuts as they can be added to so much, sweet and savoury. A couple of tablespoons of ground almonds stired through a curry, chilli, bolgnaise etc sauce are undetectable but add lots of calories.
Go continental and serve bread with olive oil for dipping alongside dinner.

Oh and rocky road maybe? Vegan chocolate + x amount of vegan butter + some syrup (I always guess the amount and get it wrong), melted together, mix up with your preference of crushed biscuits, mini marshmallows, dried fruit if she can have it, spread out in a lined baking tray and chill.

You can buy fairy-free pesto very easily in supermarkets

Can you disguise peanut or cashew nut butter in sauce? My ds who dislikes nuts in general will eat satay with peanut sauce.

How about pancakes with sweet toppings? You can make the pancakes with soya milk and margerine. Then top with banana mashed with peanut butter, or dairy free chocolate sauce.

You can get vegan pesto (sacla free from) which must be dairy free as it's vegan.
