Meal ideas for a big group

I am going on a big group holiday in August, staying at residential type accommodation, so think youth hostel/school trip type place. We take it in turns to cook, and I have volunteered to cook one night, for between 15 and 20 very hungry people. Looking for ideas on what to cook, that isn't spag Bol or chilli! Any ideas gratefully received.

DIY taco buffet! Always a large family pleaser, have options for hard or soft shells, mince or black beans, peppers & onions, lettuce, tomato, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, boom.

Does the place have onsite catering too? I ask because I run a youth hostel and we let self catering guests use our large catering size oven dishes and the ovens are big enough to fit them.

If that's the case you could make all sorts of things.

Or you could make up a couple of big curries (a meat and a veg) in advance, freeze and take with you. Serve with salad, naan and rice.

Curry easy- could make a couple in advance and bulk out with naan, popodums (sp??) mango chutney etc. potential for starters too - bhajii, samosas etc if near enough to supermarket.
Pizza another easy one, depending on oven size etc. bulk out with salads, garlic bread etc
Might there be BBQ facilities? Thinking chicken or meat skewers, baked potatoes in oven, salads!!!
Will keep thinking!!
Good luck. Smile

I was thinking about maybe Mexican, so tacos, tortillas etc. Like the curry idea too, although there is a curry night earlier in the week. I think the place has catering style facilities, but I'd better check. Thanks for all the ideas so far!

I'd cook a big pot of sausage stew and serve it with bread and butter. I put onion, garlic, carrot, baby potatoes, peas, sausages, tinned tomatoes, and fresh cherry tomatoes then season with a spoonful of Bovril and whatever herbs I have lying about.

You could do meaty and vegetarian burritos, think mince and quorn mince for example. Lots of salad, tomatos, salsa etc and everyone can help themselves.

I'd do either:

couple of curries plus the trimmings

load of baked potatoes , salad, coleslaw and a couple of toppings - eg big pan of ratatouille and big pan of homemade baked beans

baguettes, load of sausages, load of balsamic onions, salad, coleslaw

But the curry one would feel like the least work to me, I think.
