Hello, I'm a long time lurker and need the help of you lovely ladies please!

My new boyfriend is a chef and cooks me amazing meals. I, on the other hand, am very basic in the kitchen. I'm cooking for him at the weekend and none of my usual dishes are likely to work.

Please could I have your best dish suggestions/recipes to try and impress him in the kitchen?

Thanks very much in advance! Grin

Could he do your job? If not, I wouldn't worry. Chef's tend to eat the same kind of food as everyone else.

Buy the absolute best ingredients you can afford and prepare them simply. Chefs like simple home cooked meals but nicely cooked with the best ingredients.

Instead of trying to do something fiddly and complicated, do something simple with the best ingredients you can afford - like a really nice piece of grilled salmon etc.

The one thing that is guaranteed to impress a chef is good ingredients.

My ex was a chef and just appreciated having food made for him. M&s deals always went down well.

What are you most confident cooking? I wouldn't look to try something new, stick with what you know, use in season, local produce if possible and keep it simple. Opt for things that can be mostly prepped in advance or put in the oven a left.

My DH was a chef for many years, he is the least judgemental person to cook for I know. Just make something simple & lovely.

A good friend of ours is a world famous chef/restaurant owner. He says almost no one ever cooks for him, and he's utterly delighted with the simplest, most uncheffy food.

Agree with everyone above. How about anti pasti or charcuterie then roast chIcken buttery new potatoes and asparagus or peas. Fresh fruit for pud. Not too much prep and can be served hot or warm or even cold so no worries with timings. Lovely on a summers evening and hopefully won't send you in for a carb-coma. Fingers crossed - hope it's a great night !

BBC good food website has great recipes that are simple to make. I made this the other night and my partner and mother said it was nicer than anything they have had in a restaurant. I added peppers and some extra chilli powder.

Get a good wine to match your dish.

My DP is a chef he was most impressed with my prawn curry or spaghetti Bolognese rather than anything spectacular

From experience with friends, chefs very rarely eat properly or cook for themselves (bit like anyone, you don't want to do your job at home)
make something interesting but easy (Ramen soup springs to mind!) He will just be grateful you are cooking and he is getting a good hot meal
