One handed cooking!

Hi MN,

I've got a challenge for you!

I've got a badly broken finger (broke it Saturday) and im right handed.

Just cried with frustration and pain trying to prepare shop bought Cesar Salad and lamb steak.

I can't cut, chop or use scissors Sad

Can anyone help me think up some cooking cheats to get me through or failing that recommend some good ready meals??

If it helps I eat everything but generally prefer veg.

Thanks Grin

Buy ready-prepped veg from chiller cabinet and make a stir fry?

ready-chopped onion, lardons and cherry tomatoes for risotto.

Tube of garlic purée and tinned tomatoes for pasta sauce

Have no ideas whatsoever but just wanted to offer my condolences, that sounds bloody awful. Hope you can still manage the WineSmile

Prawn risotto _ use ready cut onions etc

Lots of supermarkets do meal kits now where it has the ingredients already chopped then you just need to cook and add the sauce etc in at the right stage

(Oh, and get a Limbo to keep the strapping dry so you can have a bath)

Poor you!Flowers

Stir fry with one of the packs of wok ready noodles, the veg, and diced chicken breast and sauce.

Salmon flakes or smoked salmon, some cream, black pepper (ready ground!) and pasta.

Aww thanks for the sympathy and ideas! I have Brittle Bones Disease so I should just suck it up and crack on.

I had NO idea you could get so much stuff pre-sliced?! How have I never noticed this!!

Great idea on Salmon! I can moosh that with just a fork. And prawns actually!

Prechopped stuff is great, and electric can openers are a life saver. The supermarket (esp Waitrose) pre prepped dishes are usually better than ready meals.
Always put things in the oven on a baking sheet, and a silicon grabber is easier than oven gloves (I cried once as I'd done a casserole and couldn't get it out as I couldn't get hold of the hot dish one handed with an oven glove and no tray)
Cutting things in the kitchen with a sharp knife is much easier than trying to do it at the table, even with a spork - all meat gets cut up there for me.
Stir fry is OK in a heavy frying pan, but a beggar in a wok
I prefer to eat from shallow bowls rather than chasing things round a plate
nearly 7 years of one handed cooking here!

Microwave rice pouches were a lifesaver for me when I broke my wrist as they removed the need to lift heavy pans to drain as was cous cous that just needed boiling water.
I just cheated all the way! Things like breaded fish or fish cakes and oven chips with peas cooked in the microwave to avoid heavy pan.
Oven bake falafel with pita bread and ready chopped salad.
Ready made mash, pre grated cheese, pre chopped veg all served their purpose well!
