Can anyone suggest the best bread and oil to do this with? Also if there is anything I can add. Had recently at a restaurant and really enjoyed!

Any nice bread works but I like it with Ciabatta because it's a bit more of a "solid" bread...it's got a bit of body!

Make sure to use good quality Balsamic vinegar and good quality olive oil!

Have it alone as a snack or before dinner or have it with a selection of nice cheeses, olives and prociutto or other meats.

Sour dough is nice also. Try some Zatar in the oil or olive paste under the oil. The key is the oil. Good extra virgin oil.

Damn. Now I want some! I have nice oil and vinegar but no bread apart from two stale rolls!

Nice, top quality cold-pressed rapeseed oil is also good as a treat.

I much prefer the really thick syrupy balsamic glaze stuff to ordinary balsamic...often lidl have it, but have seen it in morrisons and tesco, plastic squirty bottle type container.

Add some ripe tomatoes, mozzarella & basil and you have a luxurious lunch.

Thanks guys! I've seen somewhere that you need to warm up the olive oil...but sounds like no one else is doing this ?

You can fry up a little garlic and rosemary to infuse the oil if you want, but it's usually room temp.

olive oil doesn't do well in the fridge so it should be out in the room....I haven't heard of warming it.

so I'd say room temp is fine

Greek salad- red onion (raw), green pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese. Mix, drizzle liberally with oil & balsamic vinegar, eat the salad, mop up with bread afterwards. Sainsbury's do a lovely olive ciabatta.

Make pan con tomate. Grate a large tomato into a box grater until you're left with the skin and hard flesh next to the skin. If you wish, press the tomato mixture from inside the grater through a sieve to remove the tomato seeds (or you can leave them in if you wish). Take old bread, toast it lightly, drizzle with olive oil, then spread with the tomato mixture and, if you like, a sprinkle of salt.

Jamón ibérico on top optional.

Add a grind of salt to the oil. Also dried rosemary is amazing.

I think Beluzu make a good thick syrupy Balsamic and their olive oil is nice and fruity but French Butter with sea salt will always be better than anything else!
