There are so many things you can freeze so I thought it would Bebee easier to ask what I cannot freeze.

I wanted to make my groceries last longer and was looking at things I could freeze so they don't end up in the bin.

I know you can't freeze water vegetables like Celery, Cucumber.

I am not sure about plain yoghurt/Greek style yoghurt - can I freeze it?

Eggs cannot be frozen in the shell but I have been told I can freeze once mixed? Is that right?

Any other tips please can you share

Hey, you can freeze yoghurt.
You can freeze egg white (out shell fine) The gelation property of egg yolk causes it to thicken or gel when frozen. If you freeze them as they are, egg yolks will eventually become so gelatinous. To help this gelation, beat in either 1/8 teaspoon salt or 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar or corn syrup per 1/4 cup of egg yolks

Or you can mix them and put them in raw too.

Dairy freezes horribly.

Strawberries and tomatoes. They contain so much water that the cells burst on freezing. When thawed, this just turns to mush.

Thanks guys that is very useful information.

I've got a bag of frozen strawberries and raspberries from the shop... never defrosted them fully though because we just use in nutribullet

Can you freeze pasta/spaghetti?

Pasta doesn't freeze well. If it was mixed it with something then it might be okay but if just make the pasta when you need it

DH freezes celery to be used in cooking. It just can't be eaten raw.

Thanks for that tip. I only use it in cooking so at least I know I can chop and freeze.

I am going to try and chop and freeze as much as I can because it's such a huge time saver too when cooking

With two children under 19 months I need all the time saving tips I can get haha

We freeze milk, yogurt, cheese (soft and hard), margarin, butter - all fine for eating cooked or raw.

Pasta, noodles, rice are fine if already mixed with the sauce.

Veg is fine provided you plan to cook it.

Pototos, and all root veg keep for months (unfrozen) if you have a good storage place, dark, not damp, and the veg can 'breath'.

We freeze excess cherry toms, they're no good for eating in a salad or whatever but good for souped, pasta sauces or Italian fish type dishes

Fresh chillis freeze perfectly - I tried this on a whim a few years ago, and it's brilliant. You can buy a bunch and throw them in the freezer to use as and when.

Peeled garlic also freezes perfectly.

I buy vacuum-packed bags of pre-peeled garlic from the market, tip them into a plastic storage box and keep it in the freezer.

No fiddly peeling, and much better than the pre-chopped jarred stuff.

Sorry, I know you wanted stuff that doesn't freeze, but wanted to share the chilli/garlic goodness.

Frozen grapes are nice ice cold, or even popped into fruity drinks as ice cubes
