Teach me about salmon please!

I never really made fish before I married DH so I'm a bit new to it all. I've just ordered some salmon fillets off the Ocado shop, what are the easiest ways to bake them? My cousin does something where she just bakes it in foil with butter and garlic, I'm after that sort of easy recipe I can knock up with some veg!

I quite often cook it by wrapping in foil and putting in oven (about 180 fan) for 10 mins.

Choose your topping on the salmon inside the foil

sweet chilli sauce
ginger, garlic and honey (and chillis) and lemon.
rosemary garlic and tomatoes
Chilli oil

Or pesto smeared on the salmon is good too.

I'll sometimes mix together harissa and yoghurt and bake without foil with some breadcrumbs. That work well with pesto too - so you get a crispy crust.

I just put butter, black pepper and lemon juice on them and whack them in the oven in a little foil parcel Smile and have broccoli and new potatoes with them

Put salmon fillet on a square of foil with cherry tomatoes, asparagus (skinny young ones work best) and a knob of butter and salt & pepper. Fold into foil parcel and bung in oven. I go for 200 deg c for 15 mins. Serve with more veg or new potatoes. Really easy and very tasty.

Thanks all! These sound easy. Will give it a go tomorrow. Just returned from holiday and he's keen to be healthier, I think these will be a quick and easy dinner that's also healthy, hopefully.

This Jamie Oliver recipe always goes down well. Skip the anchovies if you don't like them. Normally just serve with some nice crusty bread.

In a decent size fry pan, fry two sliced courgettes for about two mins

add in a good handful of halved cherry tomatoes and season with salt. Add a clove of garlic, crushed.

After a couple of mins as everything softens, stir in a jar of pesto (I prefer red pepper pesto). Throw in a bag of spinach and pop a lid on.

In another pan, heat a spoonful of olive oil and then add your salmon, skin side down. Four minutes on that side, three on the other. Serve on a bed of your pesto veg

I often make sticky salmon with Chinese greens, it is yummy. With some rice or noodles, unless trying to be super healthy.

I would say supermarket sized fillets need more than 10 minutes in foil in the oven though: I do mine for about 17.

Depends how well done you want them to be I guess tinkly, I like them lightly cooked and still moist so 10mins works for me.

I bake salmon covered with plenty of dark soy sauce, garlic granules and black pepper. 15-20 mins at 200deg in my fan oven works for me.
Great with salads or stir fries and tolerable cold.

Another way with salmon I use is just marinaded and cooked with freshly squeezed juice from one lime and cooked as above - lovely in summer with a leaf salad. (Your problem will be whether to have it with a glass white or rose Smile)

I either brush them with sweet chilli sauce and then cook covered with foil, or cut a slit into the top, put a blob of pesto in, then a sundried tomato, then a slice of mozzarella, and cook uncovered.

A simple way is to just seal them inside some foil, with a dash of white wine, some garlic butter and a wedge of lemon. Salmon is so versatile!

Thanks for these all!

I tried some the other day, a mix of some of your suggestions, going simple as this was my first time. I just did a glug of olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper as a marinade, and then chucked in some tomatoes and red onion. At the Last minute I squeezed over some lemon and then left the slice in there too.Baked it in the foil and served with roasted baby new potatoes and broccoli. DH loved it. His only complaint was that he wanted more. I only did one fillet, as that looked like a good size in the pack, but I guess it may have looked smaller when it came out of the oven so I ended up baking the other fillet quickly with just the oil, seasoning and chilli flakes as he wanted more!

Definitely one fillet each at least

TBH we usually do ours in the microwave. About 2.5 minutes on full power for one fillet, a bit longer but I forget how much for more.

He had both to himself! I don't eat fish and he generally has food portions, but even with a large, full plate, he needed more.

I love pan fried salmon, make the skin go nice and crispy and it can be eaten, I marinade mine in soy sauce, ginger, garlic, olive oil and honey before cooking and serve with tenderstem broccoli and noodles.
