Where can I find REALLY THICK cottage cheese?

I like the kind you get if you have a jacket potato in Fat Jackets (or spud u like I think) - outrageously thick and creamy rather than watery. But nothing I've found in a supermarket is like that! Any thoughts please?

Longley farm cottage cheese. I think it's sold in most supermarkets.

NannyR · 27/03/2017 13:08

Longley farm is delicious, full fat and really creamy.

Cagliostro · 27/03/2017 13:09

Thank you, I actually just got that one as found it in Asda, and it is better than most of the other stuff, but it doesn't seem to be the same!

I was all sad when I opened it as I was convinced that was the right one (disclaimer, morning sickness may be a factor) 😳

Ah! Does the normal one not say fat free then? I could only find the one that says fat free so maybe that was the issue? That would be more watery I guess!

You can get fat free and full fat too.

Cagliostro · 27/03/2017 13:22

Aha! In that case I will make sure I look for the full fat next time. Thanks all. (Is it lame to be THIS excited about cottage cheese?)

You can strain it through butter muslin to make it thicker.

AwkwardSquad · 27/03/2017 13:25

YY Longley Farm, but the full fat one. It's gorgeous.

AwkwardSquad · 27/03/2017 13:28

Here you go - spotte 's guide

AwkwardSquad · 27/03/2017 13:28

That should say 'spotter's'...

May I chip in please? I LOVE cottage cheese (thanks to my Polish heritage and we Poles are cottage cheese connoisseurs Grin)

If you have a Polish deli nearby, go and get some polish cottage cheese. They come in a semi firm crumbly block. Get some soured cream and mix it up yourself with some salt and pepper to taste to a consistency you like. The taste is incredibly rich and step above anything ready mixed.

Here is some pics of what it looks like and brands you may see.

If you have a Polish community nearby a large Tesco will have a polish section too.

I'd get the full fat version (which usually comes in red packaging. Half fat is green and fat free is blue which is the other way around to British coding)

Enjoy!

Excellent thank you :) now I need to find it in a supermarket. Perhaps the days of disappointing cottage cheese are finally behind me :o

Ps. And I get unfeasibly excited about cottage cheese too. I'm nearly 40 weeks at the moment and throughout pregnancy I was just eating whole blocks of it. You can eat it in slices with some salt on top which is my fave way. My baby who is quarter Polish really wanted to get back to its roots I suppose! Grin

Cagliostro · 27/03/2017 13:45

:o Mustn't ignore what baby wants! Congratulations :)

My Sainsbos sell the polish cottage cheese above, it's gorgeous.
I love cottage cheese but get the rage that it's mainly only available in low fat watery old shite versions, I'm not on a diet, gimme the fatGrin

Asmoto · 27/03/2017 16:15

I'm a Longley Farm full fat fan, and I'll be trying the Polish cheese I think!

Jemimapuddleduk · 27/03/2017 16:18

Longley farm is amazing. They also do it with chives and with pineapple. Lush. It's making me fancy a spud with cottage cheese now!

AdaColeman · 27/03/2017 16:23

I love the Polish breakfast of cottage cheese and fresh herbs and maybe a juicy Polish tomato, fantastic tastes!

Cagliostro · 27/03/2017 16:28

I agree brillo I'm sure I read that cottage cheese is very low fat naturally so surely it's just overkill to take more of the creamy fatty goodness out!

I'm jolly pleased so many people have responded to a thread on cottage cheese. I thought it'd languish in unanswered messages!

Co -op strangely enough. Their own brand is really thick and luscious.

I've really struggled to get full fat cottage cheese recently. I bought some Longley farm on a whim and now we are all addicted I can only find the watery fat-free stuff in all our local shops. Sad

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/03/2017 16:36

I have the same problem with yoghurt.
I love plain Greek yoghurt, but sometimes want flavoured ones, or even a novelty Muller corner type, but they are all low fat with artificial sweeteners, bleeurgh.

LadyPenelope68 · 27/03/2017 16:44

Longley Farm cottage cheese, it's food of the gods. As for their yoghurts ....... drool!
