Just do a sponge cake:-
6oz SR flour
and add an ounce of cocoa powder (not hot choc)
Easy peasy - when cookd and cooled, fill middle with chocolate buttercream mmmmm
i've seen this recipe before and am planning to use it to make daughters birthday cake (see other thread). how do you make buttercream?
6oz Icing Sugar, sifted
3 oz Butter, softened
Tablespoon or so (to taste) of cocoa powder
Vanilla Essence, a few drops
Cream the butter and sugar until soft and light.
Add the vanilla and cocoa and mix mix mix - add more cocoa if it needs it (taste it)
I'm doing it for ds birthday tomorrow
My mum used to make a chocolate sponge cake just like that but made peppermint butter cream instead, yum

How long do you bake the choc cake for and at what temperature??
Gas mark 4 for 30-40 mins (until a skewer comes out clean)
cream sugar & butter together first
add (sIFTED) flour & cocoa
A friend of mine made the 6663 cake as we call it - used nutella for the topping and it was gorgeous.
